Rynella - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Marcellus Catholic Church at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, for Glenn Alexander Abshire, 78, who passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Rev. James Nguyen will be the Celebrant. Lectors will be nieces, Elizabeth Ready and Sarah Lindsay.

Entombment will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia from 9:00 am until 1:15pm on Wednesday.

A rosary led by the Men's Rosary Group will be prayed at 11:00 am on Wednesday.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Glenn Alexander Abshire was born on October 29, 1946. He proudly served our country in the Louisiana Army National Guard where he was a Staff Sargant in the Second Battalion of the 156 Infantry. He retired from Compass Minerals Salt Mine after 40 years of service. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping and hunting, but his favorite hobby was fishing, especially at Toledo Bend Reservoir. He enjoyed cooking delicious food for his family, being in his garden every spring and summer, trips to the casino, and listening and dancing to French Zydeco/Swamp Pop Music. He cherished spending time with the love of his life, and their beautiful children. He was extremely proud to be a Poppa to his granddaughter who could also put a big smile on his face.

Mr. Abshire is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Cynthia Laperouse Abshire of New Iberia; daughter, Dawn A. DeRouen and husband Jeff of New Iberia; son, David Abshire and wife Mary of New Iberia; granddaughter, Chloe DeRouen of New Iberia; sisters, Mary Harper and Vernice Long; six sisters-in-law, Deborah Ready (Pat), Peggy Lacroix (Richard), Cheryl Laperouse, Maxine Laperouse, Shelia Parich (Sam), and Ruth Abshire; three brothers-in-law, Mack Laperouse (Ann), Neal Laperouse, and James Laperouse Jr. (Ladonna); his godchildren, Kevin Abshire, Vickie Rivett, and Lexie Laperouse; three step-grandchildren, Brett DeRouen, Alex DeRouen, and Charlie Caudillo; step-great-granddaughter, Eloise DeRouen; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by son, Steven Glenn Abshire; his mother Ada Segura Abshire; father, Alexander Abshire; mother-in-law, Clara Bell Judice (Lee Judice); father-in-law, James Laperouse Sr.; brothers, Gerald Abshire, Percy Delcambre, Marnell Delcambre, Loveless Abshire, and Alton Abshire; sisters, Eviola Abshire, Margie Weekly, Adles Weekly, Angelle Touchet, and Geralddean Abshire; nieces, Laurie Ready, and Janine Abshire; nephews, Andrew Ready, Kenneth Delcambre, Dwayne Harper, Dolphie Abshire and Douglas Abshire; special family friend, Gale Stafford, and his faithful dogs, Annie and Miley.

Pallbearers will be David Abshire, Jeff DeRouen, Pat Ready, Sam Parich, Brian Harper, Chris Abshire, Richard LaCroix, and James Laperouse Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, Kevin Abshire, Patrick Ready, Dillon Domingue, Sam Parich III, Jeremy Sonnier, Max Domingue, Daniel Laperouse, Skyler Parich, and Mitchell Laperouse.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the doctors and caring nurses who cared for him during his illness and final days at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, especially his ICU nurses, Abby, Chelsea, Stephanie, and Brandy.
