St. Martinville Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Helen Jean-Batiste Murphy, 77, who passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013, at Camelot Nursing Home.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 7:00 am until 10:30 am on Wednesday at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be recited at 9:00 am on Wednesday.
Rev. Justin Arockiasamy, SVD will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Helen Jean-Batiste was born January 31, 1936 to the union of Mr. Antoine Jean-Batiste and Elise Lee Jean-Batiste.
Helen Jean-Batiste Murphy departed this life December 12, 2013. She was preceded in death by her parents and was united in holy matrimony to John H. Murphy.
Helen was a retired school teacher with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Southern University A & M College, and a Masters Degree from Prairie View University of Texas. She taught 22 years in Dallas, Texas and 14 years in St. Martinville.
She leaves to cherish fond memories, a brother, Allen Jean-Batiste of Cado, LA; a sister, Shirley Jean-Batiste Curlee of Dallas, TX; two godchildren, Dr. Byron Cryer and Javon Wiltz; two nieces, Glenda J.B. Walker of Broussard, and Jakeithia Prejean of Cade; two nephews, Marvin Jean-Batiste of Duson, and Devin Jean-Batiste of Lafayette; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Byron Cryer, Marvin Jean-Batiste, Garland Jean-Batiste, Harold Jean-Batiste, Derrick Mitchell, and Eric Mitchell.
