Hilda Menard Viator

New Iberia – Funeral services for Hilda Menard Viator, 92, will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia at 1:00 pm, on Saturday, September 7, 2024.

Reverend Keith Landry will officiate the service followed by entombment at Beau Pre Cemetery. 

Visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm on Saturday with a rosary led by Rev. Keith Landry and the Sacred Heart Rosary Group at 11:00 am.

Hilda, a lifelong resident of New Iberia, passed away on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, at her home. She was a devoted wife to Ordley, her husband of 70 years and was selflessly committed to her vocation of raising five daughters. She loved working in her yard, was a talented seamstress, immaculate housekeeper, and a wonderful cook. Hilda was a faithful parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church where she served as a catechism teacher and member of a ladies’ rosary group who met weekly for many years. 

Survivors include daughters: Christine Pesson and husband Carl of Broussard, Rebecca Bauer of Lafayette, Ellen Zokai of Plano, Tx, Sally Taylor of Lafayette; Peggy Villermin and husband Eric of New Iberia; 13 grandchildren to whom she was affectionately known as “Granny”: Valerie Pesson, Hillary Pesson, Carter Pesson, Mitchell Bauer, Brooke Brooks, Kate LeFleur, Olivia Williams, Matthew Zokai, Lauren Taylor, Wesley Taylor, Luke Villermin, Anna Bienvenu and Jane Villermin and eight great grandchildren: Jack, Sunny, Charlie, Lily, Ella, Jude, Lucas and Mila; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ordley Viator; father, Ferdinand Menard; mother, Edmae Romero Menard LeLeux; stepfather, C.L. "Cap" LeLeux; and sisters, Nora Broussard, Hazel Dugas and Amez Derouen. 

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Mitchell Bauer, Matthew Zokai, Wesley Taylor, Luke Villermin, Carter Pesson, and Jacques Bienvenu. Honorary Pallbearers include Eric Villermin and Dean LeBlanc.

The family would like to thank Dr. Vina Baker for her compassionate care through the years and Carolyn Romero for 8 years of loving caregiving assistance.

Hilda’s strength of character along with unwavering love and dedication to her family were evident in every aspect of her life. She unselfishly put the needs of her loved ones above her own and made countless sacrifices to ensure their well-being. Though she may no longer be with us in body, her spirit will forever be a guiding light in our lives.
