New Iberia - Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM , Tuesday, May 3, 2011 , at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Horace A. Tabor, Jr., 67, who passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011 in New Iberia .
Entombment will follow in St. Michael's Mausoleum, in St. Martinville.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate.
Born on August 26th, 1943 , Horace was a school teacher in St. Martin Parish Schools for 25 years. His field of expertise was French and Louisiana History at the Junior High level. To that end, he had established a student French Club, and tutored students for extracurricular school activities. He was not only a teacher, but a mentor, and friend to many in both his personal and public life. An avid reader of mystery, Horace enjoyed cooking, crafts, and working puzzles.
Survivors include two sisters, Louisette Migues and husband Jerry Migues, Sr. of New Iberia, and Patsy Tabor of New Iberia; one brother, Michael Tabor and wife Sheila of Port Arthur, Texas; sisters-in-law; Catherine Tabor of Port Allen, and Doris Tabor of St. Martinville; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Marie Laviolette Tabor, Sr.; a sister, Monita T. Belaire; four brothers, Elvist Tabor, Sr., Nollen Tabor, Walter Tabor, and Robert Tabor.
Pallbearers will be Michael Tabor, Elvist Tabor, Jr., Ames Belaire, Jr., Larry Renard, Edward Gambrill, and Gregory Waguespack.
Honorary pallbearers include Carey Rivet, and Rev. Ed Degeyter.
A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 3:30 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Monday. Visitation will continue Tuesday at 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM .
