James Elwood Comeaux

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm on Monday, March 1, 2021, at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church in New Iberia for James Elwood Comeaux, 86, who passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2021, in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Rev. Louis J. Richard will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 8:00 am until 12:15 pm at Pellerin Funeral Home. A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 10:30 am Monday. Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, face masks and social distancing are required. A resident of New Iberia, Mr. Comeaux was born on December 31, 1934, in Abbeville, to the late Ophis and Nedia Trahan Comeaux. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a graduate of USL, now University of Louisiana Lafayette (ULL), with a degree in agriculture. He was a retired dairy farmer and was also a school bus driver and teacher. An avid ULL Ragin Cajun Fan, Mr. Comeaux enjoyed gardening, being active in nature, and spending time with his family. He served as an usher for many years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Cattlemen's Association. He is survived by his wife of nearly 59 years, Gloria Faye Comeaux of New Iberia; son, Michael James (Brenda C. Comeaux) Comeaux of New Iberia; two daughters, Karen Jo (Whitney Jean Broussard, Jr.) Broussard of Abbeville and Carla C. (Jonas Paul Beatty) Beatty of Ventress; daughter-in-law, Cindy U. Comeaux of Lafayette; sister, Jane C. (Patrick Byler) Byler; seven grandchildren, Carl Michael Comeaux, Michelle Comeaux Moss, Chauncey Alexander Broussard, Logan Michael Broussard, Austin David Comeaux, Mary Beth Angelle Beatty, and Jon Cade Alexander Beatty; eight great grandchildren, Lola Comeaux, Reece Comeaux, Graham Comeaux, Gunner Moss, Michael Moss, Nathan Broussard, Luke Broussard, and Olivia Broussard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Paul Comeaux; sister, Mildred C. Broussard; niece, Sonya B. Daspit; and nephew, Michael Broussard. Pallbearers will be Michael James Comeaux, Whitney Jean Broussard Jr., Jonas Paul Beatty, Chauncey Alexander Broussard, Logan Michael Broussard, Jon Cade Alexander Beatty, Carl Michael Comeaux, and Austin David Comeaux.
