Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Teche Baptist Church for James "Jay" W. LaHaye, Sr., 83, who passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 at his residence.
A visitation will take place at Teche Baptist Church on Thursday from 8:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
Pastor Reggie Williams will officiate at the Funeral Service.
Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at Denham Springs Memorial Cemetery in Denham Springs.
James W. LaHaye, Sr., also known as Jay, Dad, Grandpa, Polar Bear, and to the love of his life, Honey, was born on September 4, 1942, in Opelousas, Louisiana. His mother, Lorraine, was a nurse and his father, Burton, was a combat engineer during World War ll and an employee of Halliburton.
James studied zoology at USL Lafayette, where he met the love of his life, Sandra Castex.
James and Sandra married on December 26, 1964, which was the beginning of a 62 year adventure filled with love! James took great pride in being the family patriarch. He led by example and is loved, adored and respected by 3 generations!
A hot cup of coffee every morning, Bible study and discussion, bass fishing, and meeting his friends at Waffle House for coffee and conversation were just a few of his favorite things. James had a genuine love for others, enjoyed family and friends and being a loyal member of Teche Baptist Church.
James was also an amazing leader and pacesetter in the workplace, working in positions as process operator, process contractor and oversees start up advisor for companies like Halliburton, Exxon, BASF and UMC of Louisiana, Inc. James was not only an employee but he was also an employer, opening 2 family businesses; a photography shop in Baton Rouge called Custom Photoworks, specializing in retail camera sales and custom photography, and A-1 Alarms, LLC, which he opened with his wife, Sandra, and son James W. LaHaye, Jr, which has now been in business over 2 decades!
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sandra Castex LaHaye; daughter, Jennifer Kurts (husband, James); son, James W. LaHaye, Jr.; grandchildren, Michelle Clark (husband, Josh), Andrew Kurts (wife, Kelsey), Conrad Kurts (wife, Bree) and John Kurts (wife, Victoria); and great-grandchildren, Ruby, James, Stephanie, Mariska, Elsie, Oliver, Julien and two on the way.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Stephanie LaHaye; grandson, James G. Kurts, II; and parents, Burton G. LaHaye and Lorraine Bradley LaHaye.
Pallbearers will be James LaHaye, Jr., Mark Hebert, George Hebert, Conrad Kurts, John Kurts and Josh Clark.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jay's name to Teche Baptist Church. (3634 Grand Point Hwy. Breaux Bridge, LA 70517)
