After a long fight with cancer, James Michael “Teddy” Resweber passed away at home surrounded by his family at the age of 69. He was an adventurous soul who never met a stranger. He, along with his wife and best friend, Mary K, created a beautiful family in their hometown of New Iberia.
He was born to A.J. and Elizabeth Resweber on October 8,1956. Teddy or Mike, as he was referred to by his friends and family, made a lasting impression on everyone he met through his generous spirit, big heart and infections laugh. He fondly recalled memories of elementary school at Dodson, growing up in “The Circle”, to making life-long friends at Catholic High.
Early on his hobbies included water skiing, sky diving, and scuba diving. Later on, he enjoyed Sunday afternoons at Lake Dauterive with the kids and long rides on his Harley with Mary K on the back. Teddy was an avid reader and loved grilling steaks on Saturday night.
He worked in the oil field, was an officer with the University Police at USL, and retired in the marine service and sales industry. He proudly served on the Iberia Port Commission for 16 years.
Teddy was preceded in death by his parents Anatole Joseph Resweber and Elizabeth M. Resweber.
He is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn Indest Resweber and his three children: Kathryn Angelle, Michael Joseph, and Theresa Marie. He is also survived by his sisters Millie R. Zimmer and Elizabeth “Beth” R. Bernard, husband Kent; along with his brother Richard Douglas Resweber, as well as a large extended family.
His family is extremely grateful to Philippe Prouet, MD, and his staff at the Ochsner Oncology clinic in Lafayette.
