New Iberia – Funeral services will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home at 12:00 pm on Thursday, May 14, 2026, for James Phillip “J.P.” Creel, 7 months, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Pastor Don Norman will officiate.
Visitation will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Thursday from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm.
James Phillip Creel was born in Overland Park, Kansas on September 29, 2025, to Peyton and Mary Liu Creel.
From the moment he opened his eyes, J.P.'s world was filled with wonder and warmth. His love for his mama and daddy was unmistakable—his face would absolutely glow whenever they entered the room, a pure and simple expression of the deep bond and joy that defined his brief but meaningful life. J.P. had a heart as big as the dinosaurs that adorned everything around him—from his nursery to his wardrobe, these prehistoric creatures sparked his imagination and brought him endless delight.
J.P. loved to Facetime with his grandparents. Ever eager and playful, J.P. found joy in banging the keys on a keyboard, so much so that his parents got him his own. Unlike most babies, J.P. was captivated not by typical children’s shows, but by the television series "Bones," which held his mesmerized gaze for hours.
There was magic in the little things J.P. enjoyed: watching his daddy play games with bright-eyed fascination, curiously pulling his mama’s glasses off, and joyfully scooting around the room in pursuit of the dog and cats that he so deeply adored. Mealtime was another time of both joy and earnest expectation—he loved to eat and would get upset if his mama took too long to feed him!
Though J.P.’s time with us was heartbreakingly brief, the love, affection, and joy he radiated will forever be etched in our hearts. He was truly a blessing, a tender soul whose memory will bring smiles amid tears for years to come.
J.P. is survived by his parents, Peyton and Mary Liu Creel; grandparents, James and Nicole Wyman, Aimee Liu, Scott and April Barrick, Georgia Creel, and Tim and Elizabeth Hance; great-grandparents, Barry and Cindy Bouton, George and Amy Liu, Joe Barrick, and Suzanne Barrick; great-great grandmother, Frances St. Pierre; aunts and uncles, Shelby Menard, Dylan Menard (Christina), Sydney Moore, Allie-Anne Carter (Gauge), Tatum Barrick, Sophie Creel, and Jaci Creel; great aunt, Carla Bush; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins and close family friends.
He was preceded in death by grandfather, Phillip Creel, Jr., great-grandparents, Frank and Pearl Wyman, John and Linda Peebles, George and Lynne Summerford, and Ann Barrick; and a cousin, Nash Doucet.
J.P. was a radiant light whose tender spirit and joyful affection touched the hearts of all who knew him. He will remain in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
