James 'Ace' Nathan Sandoz

New Iberia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church New Iberia, for James "Ace" Nathan Sandoz , 92, who passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2016. A gathering of family and friends will be at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia on Friday, August 19, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 pm on Friday, led by Rev. Keith Landry. Rev. Steven LeBlanc will Celebrate the Mass. Entombment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia. Jim "Ace" Nathan Sandoz was born in Iberia Parish on January 3, 1924 to the late O'Dalie Segura and Leonce P. Sandoz. He was a 1941 graduate of St. Peters College, where he was an All American Six-Man football player. He proudly served our country in the United States Army as a Captain during World War II, and was involved in the Normandy Invasion. Ace owned and operated Ace Uniforms in New Iberia for 28 years, and was a staunch supporter of CHS Panther Club. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and NIRD Softball Hall of Fame. He was a basketball referee for many years, and was active in the Acadiana 500 Tricycle Races. Ace is survived by a daughter, Bertha Sandoz Machado and husband Bob of New Bedford, MA; two grandchildren, Susan M. Green of MA, and Bobby Machado of FL; two great grandchildren, Kylie Green and Christopher Green; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rena Hebert Sandoz; three brothers, Harold Sandoz, Wilton Sandoz, and Elmo Sandoz; and three sisters, Beulah S. Viator, Irene S. Segura, and Mildred Blanchard Savoie. Pallbearers will be Johnny Beyt, Bobby Banna, Raymond Blanco, Jimmy Dykes, Bobby Sandoz, Eddie Sandoz, Larry Viator, and Jerry Blanchard. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Schwing and Mark Dietlein. Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic High School or Hospice of Acadiana.
