Affectionately known as "Cootie" to her family and friends, Jeannette will be remembered for her unwavering faith and generous spirit. Born with limitations, Jeannette met life's challenges with quiet strength and was supported throughout her life by loving family, friends and dedicated educators. She graduated from St. Martinville Senior High School, Class of 1966, and Spencer Business College. Despite adversity, she pursued employment with determination and dignity. Her family extends deep gratitude to the St. Martin Parish School Board, Union Underwear Martin Mills Plant, Winn-Dixie Corporation, and Joyce's Superette for giving Jeannette the opportunity to enjoy meaningful work and independence.
A devout Catholic, Jeannette attended Mass faithfully, prayed the rosary daily, and read her Bible routinely. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters Court St. Martin #793, local rosary groups, and St. Martha's Guild, finding great joy and purpose in her service and spiritual community.
Jeannette thrived on family connections and celebrations. She loved nothing more than gathering with her loved ones-especially when there was food, music, and dancing involved. Game shows, music, and football were among her favorite pastimes.
Later in life, Jeannette found independence and companionship living at the ARC of St. Martin apartments, where she enjoyed supporting others in her community. Her final years were spent at Landmark of Acadiana, where she participated in social activities and received the compassionate care that brought her joy and comfort.
She is survived by her devoted sisters: Mary Frances Richard, Charlotte Durand (Steven), Lucie Margaret Judice (Rene), and Corinne Poimboeuf (Barry); as well as her beloved nieces and nephews: Briar Richard (Allison), Chris Durand (Tonya), Dane Durand (Gleacia), Stephanie Robin (Scott), Nikki Theriot (Cory), Allison Ferrara (Marco), and Ryan Poimboeuf. Her legacy lives on through her great-nieces and nephews: Luke and Ellie Durand, Coen and Drew Richard, Alyx and Rylie Theriot, Jacob and Jude Durand, Nico, Ben, and soon-to-arrive baby Ferrara. She is also survived by numerous, adored first cousins.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Lucie Gauthier; grandparents, Francis and Edith Gauthier (maternal) and Henry Paul and Corinne Gauthier (paternal); brother-in-law, Louis Benjamin Richard, Jr.; and several cherished aunts and uncles, especially Anna Louise "Snooks" "Nanny" Gauthier, who played a formative role in her life. Her treasured cousin John R. Patin also preceded her in death.
To all her "earthly angels"-you know who you are-Jeannette's family expresses their deep gratitude. Your kindness, patience, and loving care helped her live with independence and dignity.
Special thanks are extended to the staff at Landmark of Acadiana and Hope Hospice for their outstanding care and genuine compassion. Jeannette was truly happy in her final home, surrounded by professionals who treated her with love and respect.
The family would like to especially thank Charlotte, whose tireless devotion to Jeannette ensured she lived a full and happy life. From daily needs to complex care arrangements, Charlotte's love and advocacy brought immeasurable comfort and stability to Jeannette's adult years.
