A native of Thibodeaux and a resident of New Iberia, Jimmy Allen Desormeaux was born on June 28, 1968, and was a 1986 graduate of New Iberia Senior High. He then pursued a degree in drafting that he never used, as he went to work as an insurance agent at his father’s agency, Marion Desormeaux and Associates. The agency was proudly handed down to Jimmy upon his father’s retirement. Jimmy created meaningful relationships with clients, treating each person not just as a customer but as a part of his extended family. His unmistakable personality, larger than life, drew people in effortlessly, making him a cherished friend to all.

To say that Jimmy loved people would be an understatement. He took tremendous delight in socializing, especially during weekends spent at the family camp. Though he often claimed to go fishing, those who knew him best understood that it was truly about gathering with family and friends to play cards, cook, and drink a few! These joyous occasions reflected his zest for life and his love for fellowship.

A dedicated sports fan, Jimmy had a particular fondness for watching baseball and football, especially the Houston Astros and LSU. Many friends witnessed the excitement—and frustration—that would arise as he passionately screamed at the TV during games!

In the spirit of giving back to his community, Jimmy joined the New Iberia Optimist Club, where his positivity and dedication shone through. His contributions did not go unnoticed; he was honored with the title of Optimist of the Year for 2025, a fitting recognition of his commitment to making the world around him a better place.

Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Elizabeth “Liz” Dugas Desormeaux; parents, Marion and Lona Faye Primeaux Desormeaux; brother, Randall Desormeaux (Lisa); sister-in-law, Anissa Thibodeaux Desormeaux; brothers-in-law, Donald Dugas (Taylor), Paul Dugas, and Lennis Dugas; sister-in-law, Susan Dugas; nieces, Megan, Haley, Delaina, Emma, Hailey, Kassidy, Kinsley, Taylee, and Indie; nephews, Dylan, Logan and Hayden; and his fur baby, Gracie.

He was preceded in death by brother, Rodney Joseph Desormeaux; niece, Misty Renee Desormeaux; maternal grandparents, Dewey and Lucille Faulk Primeaux; paternal grandparents, Emile and Lucy Meaux Desormeaux; brother-in-law, Joseph Dugas, Jr.; parents-in-law, Joseph and Mary Dugas; and his beloved bulldog, Bella.

Pallbearers will be Craig Duhon, Elby Duhon, Mark Patillo, Adam Haydel, Donald Dugas, and Gilbert Viator.

Honorary pallbearers are Randy Desormeaux, Emile Boudreaux, Dylan Desormeaux, Logan Desormeaux, Hayden Bonin, Ryan Bonin, and Dean Dugas.

Jimmy was so many things to so many people. His laughter, kindness, zest for life, and his ability to sprinkle joy wherever he went will remain in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
