John Adam Delahoussaye was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on December 13, 1967, to Charles “Speedy” Lucius and Geraldine “Gerry” Peltier Delahoussaye. Growing up on Wayne Street, he would later graduate from the University of Southwest Louisiana (now known as the University of Louisiana Lafayette) with a degree in Industrial Technology from the College of Engineering. In 1993 he married his wife, Elizabeth Akers, before moving to Knoxville, Tennessee where they would raise their only son Adam, born in 2002. As a career engineer, he worked at ImagePoint before moving on to become a Senior Project Manager at Principle Group for more than 15 years.
Those who knew John would say that he was a man of few words, but those that knew him best would tell you what tremendous faith and wisdom lay underneath his calm sense of quiet. He was a devout Christian, born into Catholicism before converting to Methodism later in his life. He remained involved in men’s groups through his church, Middlebrook Pike United Methodist and was an avid volunteer in Habitat for Humanity where he could put his true passion as a handyman to good use. On any given Saturday morning, he could most likely be found in the yard attending to various tasks before retiring to the recliner to watch his LSU Tigers in football or baseball in the afternoon and evening. He was an avid fisherman and all-around lover of the outdoors, as well as a frequent fan of The History Channel and the College World Series. He could name just about every John Prine song ever recorded.
Mr. Delahoussaye is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; son, Adam; mother, Gerry; siblings, Beth Comeaux, Charles Delahoussaye, Jr. (Mary), Donna Delahoussaye (Brian Bennett), Patricia Delahoussaye, and David Delahoussaye.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles “Speedy” Lucius Delahoussaye, Sr.
