John Salazar, Sr.

Breaux Bridge- A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, May 19, 2025 at St. Bernard Catholic Church for John Roman Salazar, Sr., 75, who passed away on May 15, 2025 at Evangeline Oaks Nursing Home.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Sunday from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 9:00 AM until service time.

A rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM on Sunday by his brother-in-law, Larry Savoie.

Rev. Reed Bellingham will officiate at the funeral mass.

Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

John was a 1967 graduate of Northside High School and proud member of the marching and concert band. After graduation, he worked for Southern Flow Company and retired after 35 years. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. His love for fishing led him to travel with the Bass Masters Fishing Tour and he was a proud lifetime member of BASS. John was also recognized for his unique talent in crafting handmade fishing lures, a skill that he cherished and shared with fellow anglers.

He is survived by his sons, Jason (Cynthia) Salazar and John Salazar, Jr.; step son; Christopher Matas; brother, Gerald (Judy) Salazar; brother-in-law Larry Savoie; half sister Silvia Bernard; and grandchildren, Austin Salazar, Ansley Salazar, Zoey Salazar, Natalie (Trevor) St. Amant, Emily Salazar, Olivia Salazar, Christian (Meghan) Matas, Johnathan Matas and Colette Matas

He is preceded in death by his parents, Christobal and Winnie Coleman Salazar; sisters, Brenda Savoie and Roberta Poole; brother, Chris Salazar, Jr.; maternal grandparents, John and Edna Coleman, Sr.; and paternal grandparents, Roman and Carmen Salazar.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Salazar, Jered Salazar, Bryon Salazar, Chad Savoie, Austin Salazar and Eric Duhon.
