St. Martinville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am, on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for John Calvin Smith Sr., 68, who passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016, at Lafayette General Medical Center.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday.
A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 am on Saturday.
Rev. Michael Sucharski will officiate at the Mass of Christian Burial. Readers will be Joseph Walter Pickney and Cheryl Simon. Gift Bearers will be Chester Wiltz, Stella Wiltz, and Penny Edwards.
Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Mr. Smith was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. The greatest memory the family has of him is that every Christmas he would dress up as Santa Claus and handout fruits to family members, friends, and organizations throughout the community. Mr. Smith will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving spouse Christiana Zenon Smith; son, Maurice Smith and wife Annette of Lafayette; brothers, Nary Smith and wife Linda of St. Martinville, Clarence Smith and wife Shirley of Lafayette, William Smith and wife Jo Ann of St. Martinville, Randy Smith of St. Martinville, Donald Smith of Lafayette; sisters, Shirley Simon and husband Willie of New Iberia, Alfreda Mallery and husband Calvin of St. Martinville, Octavia Broussard and husband Lovelace of Delcambre, Prenella Smith of St. Martinville, Jenella Malveaux and husband George of St. Martinville, Mary Ann Smith of St. Martinville; grandchildren, Blason Armsted, D'andre Smith, Scott Marshall, Skylar Marshall; great grandchildren, Kayden Marshall, Kameron Davis, Khiyli Marshall, and Aria Adams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Maurice Smith, Sr.; son, John C. Smith Jr.; and brothers, Kirby Smith, Sr. and Maurice Smith, Jr.; nephew, Kirby Smith Jr.; and two granddaughters Mariah Smith and Alaijah Smith.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Mallery, Calvin Mallery, George Malveaux, Kenneth Smith, Romanus Robertson, Jr., and Willie Simon, Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers will be D`andre Smith, Scott Marshall, Nary Smith, Sr., Nary Smith, Jr., Junius Narcisse, Dennis Narcisse, Sr., Dennis Narcisse, Jr., Clifton Narcisse, and Jeffery Malveaux.
