New Iberia – A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, on Monday, March 16, 2026, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, for Joseph Cleo “J.C.” Hebert, affectionately known as “Uncle Jay”, 88, who passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
Entombment will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery, with Military Honors by the Iberia Honor Guard.
Rev. Garrett Savoie will officiate.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm, at Pellerin Funeral Home, and will continue Monday from 8:00 am until 10:30 am.
A rosary, led by the Men’s Rosary Group, will be prayed at 6 pm on Sunday.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mr. Hebert was born on July 18, 1937, to the late Cleo and Josephine Hebert. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War, and retired from C.H. Fenstermaker as a land surveyor after more than 40 years of service. Mr. Hebert was a devout Catholic and was a lifetime member of the Marine Corp League and a member of the Iberia Honor Guard.
He was a devoted fan of LSU baseball and football and treasured attending many games alongside his longtime friend, Ronny Moore. He found great joy in playing softball with the original Cajun Express softball team, traveling to new places, and playing Bourré. Above all, he deeply cherished the time he spent with his family and took great pride in never missing a family milestone or event, creating memories that will last a lifetime.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Clark Hebert; children, Kim Decoux (Terry), Wanda Romero (Larry), Ashley Hebert (Corey Bourque), and Isabella Hebert; step children, Christina Payer (Russell), Leah Landry (Tristen Owens), Lon Landry (Pamela), and Kevin Landry, Sr. (Tonna); sister, Janice Bourque; grandchildren, Katie Hayes (Corbin), Kelly Decoux (Justin Angers), Lance Brasseaux, Jared Luent (Dr. Richard Nelson), Addisyn Bourque, and Carsyn Bourque; step grandchildren, Pepper Dawg Payer, Malachi Landry, Justin Picard, Kayden Landry, Tristan Landry, Kelsey Landry, Layla Landry, Kevin Landry, Jr., Phoenix Landry, Brad Romero (Kea Bagwell), and Joshua Romero (Jennifer); great-grandson, Jonah Angers; step great-grandchildren, Luke Johnson, Dalyn Romero, Kylan Romero, Brooke Romero, and Blaise Romero; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Lena Boudreaux Hebert; sisters, Patsy Kennedy and Joann Hoffman; step-grandson, Matthew Romero; and his best friends, Benny Castille, Jerry Conrad, and Charles Norman.
Pallbearers will be Terry Decoux, Larry Romero, Corey Bourque, Lance Brasseaux, Jared Luent, Carsyn Bourque, Dirk Hebert, and Barry Hebert.
Honorary pallbearers include Ronny Moore, Chris Hebert, Eric Bourque, Jonah Angers, Lon Landry, Kevin Landry, Sr., Russell Payer, and Tristen Owens.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Nursing Specialties Home Health and Hospice, and to his nurses, Anne Sullivan and Lacey Carrigee for their extraordinary care and compassion.
“J.C.” leaves behind a legacy of deep love and unwavering devotion to his family. Although his passing leaves an irreplaceable void, his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched and in the love and light he so generously shared.
