Joseph "J.L." Lester Theriot Jr.

Breaux Bridge- J.L. Theriot Jr., a lifelong resident of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of memories, music, laughter, and love.

Visitation will be held at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge on Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. 

A Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 PM. 

J.L. was born and raised in Breaux Bridge, the son of the late Joseph Lester Theriot, Sr. and Clara Belle Guidry Theriot. He was a proud Louisiana man, deeply rooted in his family, his Cajun heritage, and the traditions that shaped the person he became.

J.L. proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, spending time stationed in Germany. Following his military service, he worked for Gulf South Printing, Soloco, and later JLT Trucking.

But work was only one part of the story of J.L. Theriot.

From the time he could hold something in his hands, it seemed he could make music with it. He played the horn in the school band and later picked up the guitar, but his true passion and extraordinary talent came alive when he sat behind a beautiful drum set.

From playing with local bands and performing at the area's favorite hotspots, to traveling and touring as far as Switzerland, J.L. was most at home behind his drums. He even created a music studio in his home, where he could play for hours, allowing the echoes of his rhythm to travel throughout the neighborhood.

He may have been behind the band, but once the countdown began and the first beat dropped, J.L. owned the stage. Music wasn't simply something he did-it was a part of who he was.

Outside of music, J.L. found happiness in the simple things. He loved fishing, whether alone, with his brother, or surrounded by his family. He loved taking his family out on the lake, enjoying the peaceful beauty of Louisiana's waters.

He had an incredible eye for beauty and a natural talent for capturing it. Lake Martin and the Atchafalaya Basin provided endless inspiration for his camera. He could find the perfect sunset, catch the moon at just the right moment, and preserve the kind of quiet Louisiana beauty that others might have missed.

And then there was his cooking.

There was never just one BBQ pit when J.L. was around-there were multiple. He loved cooking for his family and took pride in making his homemade pizza and his famous chili. Food, like music, was another way he brought people together.

J.L. was a quiet man, but those who took the time to truly know him discovered a man with an incredible mind and an almost endless well of knowledge. He could talk about history, religion, politics, music, and the Cajun traditions he cherished. His mind was sharp, curious, and full of stories and information. He didn't always have to say much, but when he did, people listened.

Above all else, J.L. was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Stephannie Danos Theriot, and his parents, Joseph Lester Theriot Sr. and Clara Belle Guidry Theriot.

J.L. loved Stephannie deeply. Their marriage was a testament to a lifetime of devotion, partnership, and love.

His children were blessed to witness something rare and beautiful-the kind of love that truly meant "until death do us part." Stephannie was his wife, his best friend, his partner, and his Angel. For 51 years, they shared a love that was unwavering, devoted, and true-a love story that will forever live on in the hearts of those who witnessed it.

J.L. is survived by his children Christy (Jose) Mendoza, Elisia (Robert) Guillet, and Adam (Abby) Theriot; grandchildren, Clara Mendoza, Ashley Mendoza, Lita Guillet, Blake Elizabeth Theriot, Alex Marie Theriot and Beau Michael Theriot; siblings, Brenda (Floyd) Thibodeaux, Paul (Jenny) Theriot and Joel Theriot; along with numerous family members, friends and loved ones whose lives were touched by his. 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Calcutta House for the compassionate care they provided to J.L. and our family. A very special and heartfelt thank you goes to Uncle Arthur Danos, who spent countless hours with Mom and Dad, allowing the family to take much-needed breaks while knowing they were in loving and caring hands. We will forever be grateful for his presence, his time, and his love.

J.L. leaves behind more than memories. He leaves behind the music he created, the photographs he captured, the stories he told, the food he cooked, the traditions he carried, and the love he gave his family.

His rhythm may have gone quiet, but the beat he left behind will continue in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
