Lafayette - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m., on Friday, May 13, 2011, at The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lafayette, for Joseph Roy Landry, 84, who passed away on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center. Interment will follow at St. John Cathedral Cemetery in Lafayette. Reverend Chester Arceneaux will officiate at the funeral Mass and conduct the service. Mr. Landry was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was a self-employed boat builder and master carpenter, who loved working with his hands and had a passion for woodworking and furniture building, as well. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and going to the camp in his free time. He looked forward to and loved family gatherings and his Sunday barbecues, where he would make his delicious homemade ice cream for everyone to enjoy - those were the moments in his life that he treasured most. He will be sorrowfully missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Verna Guidry Landry of Parks; five sons, Michael Landry and his wife, Melinda, of Youngsville, Samuel Landry and his partner, Francois Martin, of California, Jacques Landry and his wife, Barbara, of Lafayette, Rickey Landry and his wife, Tina, and Louis Landry and his wife, Lynn, all of Parks; two daughters, Denise Dauphin and her husband, Scotty, Sr., of Youngsville, and Deborah Babin and her husband, Jeffery, of Parks; his sister, Mary Agnes Latiolais of Carencro; 16 grandchildren, Brandon McGouch, James Landry, Monique Landry, Monica Landry, Scott 'Charlie' Dauphin, Jr., Ashley Dauphin, Jeff Babin, Jr., Jason Babin, Krystal Dispensire, Kerri Babin, Joshua Babin, Jana Landry, Rickey Landry, Jr., Colby Landry, Zachary Landry, and Isaac Landry; and 7 great grandchildren, Blake Kindaid, Madeline Dauphin, Noah Dauphin, Hayleigh Dauphin, Gavin Dispensire, Kate Dispensire, and Shayne Landry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sully and Mathilde Guidry Landry; two brothers, Louis and Francis Landry; three sisters, Grace Grimm, Thelma Long, and Gladys Landry; and a granddaughter, Monica Landry. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. on Friday. A Rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m.Pallbearers will be James Landry, Samuel Landry Rickey Landry, Louis Landry, Jacques Landry, and Charlie Dauphin. Honorary pallbearers will be Scotty Dauphin, Joshua Babin, Jeffery Babin, Rickey Landry, II, and Brandon McGough.
