Joseph "Peewee" Alexander

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Joseph "Peewee" Alexander, 89, who passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at his residence.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge from 7:00 am until 10:00 am on Saturday. 

A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 am on Saturday morning. 

Interment will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Cemetery.

Joseph "Peewee" Alexander was born to the union of Caffery Alexander and Agnes Boudreaux Alexander on March 14, 1934. He attended St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School in his early childhood years where he served as an Altar Boy. He also served as an Usher in the church. 

Joseph was a graduate of St. Francis, George Washington Carver High School, attended USL (UL) for about a year, was drafted and served his country in the United States Army for two years, and was in the Army Reserve for six years.  He worked for SAIA Motor Freight Line for almost forty years and Hobby Lobby for about two years. In 1973, he married his wife, the former Alma Hypolite. He was a very hardworking man who provided well for his family always and was the greatest Husband, Stepdad and Step Grandfather. 

Joseph was a member of the Knights of Peter Claver and an American Legion member for over sixty years, until his death.

"Peewee" loved sports and was a great baseball player as a young man, and a great pool shooter. He was loved by his wife of over fifty years, who took care of him until he passed. He was loved dearly by his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, family, and friends, and he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alma Hypolite Alexander; son, Michael Alexander (Monique); daughter, Annette Simmons-Onwubiko (Emeka); daughter-in-law, Stacy Boyd Hypolite; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley Alexander Green (Gerard, Sr.); sisters-in-law, Delores Joseph (Shelton, Sr.), Rita Demouchet (Wilton, Sr.), Deborah Batiste, Deena Bernard (Anthony) and Deidra Hypolite; brother-in-law, Melvin Hypolite; nephew, Gerard Green, Jr. (Ashley); niece, Debbie Green; his godchildren, Sharon Calais, Raquel Francis, Renee Fontenette, Devin Roy, Gregory Dandridge, and Denzel Hypolite; and extended family, Todd and Dr. Shameika Nwafor Savoy.

He is preceded in death by his son, David "Red" Hypolite, Sr.; parents, Caffery and Agnes Boudreaux Alexander; aunt, Louise Soloman; parents-in-law, Harry and Elsie Hypolite; brothers-in-law, Harold Hypolite, Clarence Hypolite, David Hypolite and Dalton Hypolite; and sisters-in-law, Madonna and Vincent Demouchet, and Mary and Emile Henry, Sr.

Pallbearers from Americans Legion Post 578 are: Dennis Potier, Raymond Walter, and Orell Ledet; Pallbearers from Knights of Peter Claver are: Clovis Sylvester, Aaron Noel, and William Mouton.

Honorary Pallbearers will be David "DK" Hypolite, Daniel Derouselle, Gerard Green, Sr., Gerard Green, Jr., Daniel Soloman, Gregory Dandridge, Wilton Demouchet, Sr., Wilton Demouchet, Jr., Milton Celestine, Johnny Fontenette, Emeka Onwubiko, Todd Savoy, Devin Roy, Thaddeus Potier, Harry Francis, Emile Henry, Jr. Shelton Joseph, Sr., and Anthony Bernard.
