St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 19, 2011 , at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Joseph Pete, 71, who passed away on Sunday, February 13, 2011 at his residence. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville. Mr. Pete enjoyed riding horses and trail riding. He was a member of the Loreauville Truck Club, the Crazy Hat Riders, and the St. Martin Light Riders. Joseph was an avid football fan of the San Francisco 49ers and attended a game when they played against the Arizona Cardinals to see his nephew, Early Doucet, who played for the Cardinals, although his favorite team was the 49ers. He enjoyed following his grandchildren in all the activities they participated in, such as T-Ball and dancing. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Bourda Pete of St. Martinville; one son, Michael and his wife, Demeshia Alexander Pete of Lafayette ; two daughters, Lisa P. George and her husband, Anthony, of St. Martinville, and Janet Pete-Fox and her husband, Colby, of South Carolina; one brother, Jessie Pete of Breaux Bridge; one sister, Josephine Joseph of Breaux Bridge; 10 grandchildren, Antoine J. Pete, Dionje L. Francois, Van Keigtr Anthony, Christalyn George, Elena Cunningham, Saralyn George, Treylon Broussard, Michael J. Pete, Jayce Johnson, and Kolbie Fox; and one great grandchild, Alonna Rasmussan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoine and Elena Gary Pete; his son, Felton Fontenette; and a grandchild, Mikeisha Pete. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 7 a .m. until 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
