Gonzales, LA - Joseph Louis Stephens, 88, a loving & devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2018.
Louis was born in Washington, LA. He retired from Ormet Corp, Burnside, LA. Louis was a faithful member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church and served as an usher. He was on the Ways & Means Committee for St. Theresa School Board for many years and was a member & financial secretary of Knights of Columbus Council #2657. Louis will be remembered for his generosity, kindness to others and loving heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at St. Theresa of Avilia Catholic Church, Gonzales, LA. beginning at 10:00 AM. At 12 Noon Fr. Eric Gyan will be officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. The interment will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Washington, LA.
Louis is survived by his spouse of 70 years, Valla Mae Fontenot Stephens; his children, Debbie and spouse Mark LaCour, Brent and spouse Karen, Marsha and spouse Don Cropper, Lennie Stephens and fianc Tina Hudson, and Ellen and spouse Robert Elias; his 13 grandchildren, Danielle LaCour, Eric LaCour, Michele Percy, Clint LaCour, Jon Stephens, Rachael Stephens, Stephen Cropper, Valerie Rozman, Justin Cropper, Matthew Cropper, Blake Savoy, Emily Rosenquist, and Stephanie Hamilton; 8 great-grandchildren, Hadley, Cullen, Paxton, Joseph, Elizabeth, Luke, Isaac, and Caroline; special niece, Ethel Landreneau; and many nephews & nieces.
Louis is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Iris Ortego Stephens; siblings, Lorena Smith, Aliza Huguet, Ella Thibodeaux, Estelle Mire, Eura Montgomery, Della Mae DeVillier, and Walter Stephens; daughter, Jennifer Hansen; son-in-law, Scott Hansen; daughter-in-law, Lori Stephens; and grandson, Lance Stephens.
Pallbearers were Eric LaCour, Clint LaCour, Stephen Cropper, Justin Cropper, Jon Stephens and Blake Savoy.
Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Cropper, Mark LaCour, Don Cropper, Robert Elias.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to his wonderful caregivers, Reba LeBlanc and Cecilia CC Brown for their love, care and dedication to him and Clarity Hospice staff.
