Joyce Jeffries Smith

St. Martinville- A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville for Joyce Smith, 86, who passed away on August 11, 2023.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in St. Martinville Pellerin Funeral on Tuesday from 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday from 8:00 AM until the time of service.

Pastor Rob Burdeaux will officiate at the funeral service. 

Interment will follow at Methodist Cemetery at a later date.

One of Joyce's most striking qualities was her impeccable sense of style. She always took pride in her appearance and could be seen dressed to impress at all times. Her love for fashion extended to maintaining perfectly groomed hair and nails. Enjoying the act of shopping itself, she relished exploring the racks for new additions to her wardrobe.

Joyce had a vibrant personality that touched everyone who knew her. She loved engaging in various activities that brought her joy: Bingo, Pokeno, and bowling. While Joyce found fulfillment in these hobbies and interests, her proudest accomplishments stemmed from giving back to others through volunteering at her local church. She dedicated countless hours assisting those in need within the community she held dear.

Joyce Jeffries Smith will forever be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She leaves behind a rich tapestry of memories shared with cherished family members who will continue to hold her close in their hearts. 

She is survived by her sons, Murrell "Tommy" Smith, Jr. and John Edward Smith (Christine); grandchildren, Brandy Wassmer (Peter), Candy Smith, Murrell "Trey" Smith, III (Dana), Jackie Smith, Mark Smith (Hemmy), and Matthew Smith (Angie); 11 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; brother, Dr. Edward E. Jeffries (Brownie); and long-time caregiver and friend, Nateasha Jean-Louis.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Murrell T. Smith, Sr.; parents, Edward Eugene Jeffries, Sr. and Willene Morgan Jeffries; sons, Mark Anthony Smith and Kenneth David Smith; brother, Bill Jeffries; sister, Margaret Jeffries; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Alice Smith. 

Pallbearers will be Al Touchet, Brian Touchet, Logan Wassmer, Peter Wassmer, Abe Smith, and Ethan Connor.

Honorary pallbearers will be Matt Smith, Trey Smith, and Mark Smith.

Joyce Jeffries Smith will always be remembered as a beacon of love and joy. May her soul find eternal peace, knowing that her memory shall forever be treasured.
