A lifelong resident of New Iberia, Judy Lynn Bodin Thibodeaux was born on November 16, 1960, to the late Dallas Etienne, Sr. and Nola Armentor Bodin. A 1978 graduate of New Iberia Senior High, Judy dedicated 15 years as a secretary to Global X-Ray & Testing Corporation in New Iberia prior to retirement. In her younger years, Judy was very active in the 4-H Club, where she showed cattle. She passed that legacy down to her children and supported them at livestock shows. Judy loved watching her daughter dance and volunteering at The Studio Dance and Fitness Center, where she was known as the “Studio Maw.” Judy loved to crochet blankets and scarves, creating pieces that will be treasured by loved ones for years to come. She was always eager to learn new things and enjoyed going fishing and going to the beach. Judy and Dale, her late fiancé of 12 years, enjoyed camping trips, going out to eat, and listening to music at Riverfront with family and friends. Judy was sweet and selfless, always putting everyone else’s needs before her own. She never met a stranger, and was always one call away, often calling before even knew you needed to talk. She warmly welcomed everyone who entered her home and was known to many as “Mom Judy.” She was known as “Maw Judy” to several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, whom Judy adored.
Mrs. Thibodeaux is survived by daughter, Lauren Smith (Jonathan); stepchildren, Marvin Lee Thibodeaux, Rex Alan Thibodeaux, and Karen Thibodeaux; grandchildren who called her “Maw,” Lane Thibodeaux, Rex Thibodeaux, and Vanessa Smith; siblings, Terry Bodin (Jackie Boutte), Susan Gotcher (Thomas “T.C.”), Karen Bodin, Sandi Cobb (Bobby), and Denise Papillion; sister-in-law, Connie Bodin; and the extended Thibodeaux family whom Judy loved dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband of 19 years, Ernest “Rex” Thibodeaux; son, Leon Thibodeaux; fiancé, Dale LeBlanc; brothers, Dallas “Buddy” Etienne Bodin, Jr. and Mark Wayne Bodin; stepson, David Thibodeaux; and brother-in-law, Jacob Papillion.
