January 11, 1954 — May 5, 2014

New Iberia Funeral services will be at 2:30 PM Friday, May 9, 2014 at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Julius J Jeansonne, 60, who passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 11:07 AM surrounded by his family. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery in New Iberia. Rev. Ed Degeyter will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 10:00 AM until 10:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. Visitation will continue on Friday from 10:00 AM until 2:30 PM. A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, J was born on January 11, 1954, and was a graduate of New Iberia Senior High. He spent most of his career as a machinist, following the footsteps of his Dad. His most current position was a Class IV Waste Water Operator in the Water and Waste Water Industry. He was a hardworking man that was admired by so many people, due to his firm values, including loyalty, honor, and respect. J was a man of his word, and if you were true to him, it was a guarantee that he would have your back until the end. Many years of memories were created at his camp in the Atchafalaya Basin, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and having a good time with his family and close friends. His other hobbies included gardening, and watching the Saints play football. J devoted his life and his love to his soulmate and wife of 42 years, Debra Romero Jeansonne. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Stacy and Jerico. J was a person that dominated any crowd with his charm and his wit. He was an extremist and always went the extra mile no matter how large the task may have been. Sadly and unexpectedly, he was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer in November of 2013. Although he was only given 60 short days to live, he surpassed the expectations of everyone and proved every doctor wrong. His family exhausted all efforts possible in an attempt to save Js life, which was cherished by so many people. J began to live by this slogan, I will not stop living to die. Like most other circumstances in his life, he stayed true to his word. He fought a fierce fight and he never stopped living until God called him home. Many hearts are heavy and hurting, but those closest to him are learning to live by Js own words knowing that one sweet day, they will each get a chance to see him on the other side. Survivors include his wife, Debra Romero Jeansonne of New Iberia; daughter, Stacy Jeansonne Rebert of New Iberia; son, Jerico Jeansonne and wife Lainey of New Iberia; sister, Kerry LaBiche and husband Todd of Erath; six grandchildren, Breigh Rebert, whom J was exceptionally proud of for serving in the United States Air Force in Omaha, Nebraska, Destin and Shaina Rebert of Shalimar, FL, Tyler Jeansonne of New Iberia, Dawson Jeansonne of Houma, Aleigh Pellerin of New Iberia; a host of nieces, nephews, family, and close friends; and Miles Martin, who he thought of as a son. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ella Dore Jeansonne and Joseph Benjamin Jeansonne; mother-in-law, Joy Rita Viator; father-in-law, Emick J. Romero; and grandparents, Walter J. and Natalie L. Dore. The Jeansonne family would like to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to everyone that contributed to supporting Js incredible fight to survive. Pallbearers will be Jerico Jeansonne, Miles Martin, Junius Joe Comeaux, Barry Viator, Jonathan Bowen, and Bob Smith. Honorary pallbearers include Wayne Broussard, Brett Babineaux, Brock Smith, Dawson Jeansonne, Raul Trevizo, Jerry Derouen, Rick DaCosta, Clint Anthony, and Todd LaBiche. Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd., New Iberia, LA 70560, 337.365.3331, is in charge of arrangements.
