New Iberia – Kent J. “Papop” Picard, Sr., 63, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at Ochsner Lafayette General Medical Center following a brief illness.

A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Kent’s life will be at Pellerin Funeral Home on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

Kent Joseph Picard, Sr. was born in Franklin, Louisiana on August 24, 1962, to the late Raymond F. Picard, Sr. and Ella Mae “Mom” LeBlanc Picard.

Kent lived a life dedicated to his family, friends, and the craft he cherished as a talented carpenter. His passion for building extended into the relationships he fostered with his sons, creating beautiful pieces and memories they will cherish forever.

To his three adored grandchildren, Justin, Layla, and Ava, Kent was a source of unlimited love and affection. He embraced them wholeheartedly, showing them a depth of devotion that will be carried throughout their lives.

Kent was a selfless man who exemplified what it meant to serve others. Known for his helpful nature, he would offer a hand to anyone in need, demonstrating endless kindness. He was the type of person who would not think twice about giving the shirt off his back if it meant helping a friend or neighbor.

Kent found joy in the little things. He was a great cook, and he loved cutting grass on his zero-turn mower. He was thrilled to just ride around visiting friends, sharing stories and laughter. Kent was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend; he will be deeply missed.

Mr. Picard is survived by his loving wife of nearly 44 years, Mary B. Picard; daughter, Leslie Picard Nunez (Jason “Kirk” Nunez); sons, Kent Picard, Jr., Jacob Picard (fiancée’ Waverly Billiot), and Evan Picard; grandchildren, Justin, Layla and Ava; siblings, Raymond F. Picard, Jr. (Elizabeth Stevens) and Annette P. Derise; brother-in-law, James Stevens; sister-in-law, Monique Lecamus; and his favorite “daughter,” his beloved boxer, Sophia.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Carolyn Picard Stevens, Jacqueline P. Landry; Jackie P. Stevens, and Allen Lecamus; and stepfather, Harry “Pop” Lecamus.

Kent’s kind and generous spirit will live on in our hearts forever. May he rest in peace.
