Breaux Bridge - Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 16, 2013, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Breaux Bridge, for Kirk "Doc" LeVasseur, 56, who passed away on Monday, May 13, 2013, at Lafayette General Medical Center. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at the funeral home from 5:30 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday and continue at 7:00 am until 10:30 am on Thursday. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Rev. Donald Pousson will officiate at the Funeral Service. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery No. 2 in Breaux Bridge. Since completing his studies in 1979 at the Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, he has compassionately served individuals and families as a registered nurse. At the time of his death, he was employed by Concepts of Care of Lafayette and Keys for Sober Living of New Iberia while also serving as Program Director of Opiate Replacement Therapy Center of Breaux Bridge. Caring for people went beyond his work. He cherished his time visiting the elderly. He was selfless to the end as a cornea donor. "Doc" was known for giving his time as a youth sports coach and is affectionately known in the area as 'Coach Doc'. He always made sure kids came first and worked to be a positive influence. Docs family will miss him dearly. He always made sure they were cared for and left them with memories of a life time. He is survived by his wife, Terri Castille LeVasseur of Breaux Bridge; his two sons, Blake LeVasseur and his fianc, Chantell Blanchard of Parks, and Paul LeVasseur of Breaux Bridge; one grandson, Cameron LeVasseur of Parks; his stepsons, James Naquin and Michael Naquin of Breaux Bridge; his sister, Jeanine LeBlanc and her husband, Robert of Lafayette; his three brothers, Donald LeVasseur and his wife, Kat of Breaux Bridge, John LeVasseur and his wife, Jane of Lafayette, and Jerry LeVasseur and his wife, Sharon of Milton; his godchildren, Brandon LeVasseur and Jayden Voebel; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Donald LeVasseur and Theresa Angelette LeVasseur; and his brother, Marty LeVasseur. Pallbearers will be Chris Angelle, Terry Melancon, Rocky "Black" Hebert, Dr. Warren Degatur, Kurt Guidry, and Mayor Jack Dale Delhomme. The LeVasseur Family would like to express sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses of Lafayette General's Intensive Care Unit for their compassionate care and support.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
