A native of White Castle, Louisiana, and a longtime resident of New Iberia, Mr. Gaspard died on August 14, 2025, in Big Springs, Texas, following a brief illness. He was born June 29, 1959, to Lee Roy Francis (Sr.) and Mabel Lucy Troxclair Gaspard, and was the fifth of their six children.
As a child, Louis attended Dodson Street Elementary School, where he met his best and lifelong friend, Mike Louviere. Together they entered the workforce at a young age with a newspaper route. While a student at New Iberia Junior High, Louis was an active member of the school band, where he played the Tuba.
Louis was a 1977 graduate of New Iberia Senior High School, where he was a member of the school’s tennis team. Following high school, Louis completed many continuing education courses and earned multiple certifications in both law enforcement and oilfield technology.
In his professional career, Louis worked many years in the oilfield industry for several companies and locations throughout the United States, building a strong knowledge in many phases of drilling and production.
At one point, he took a break from the oilfield to follow another passion, law enforcement. For several years, Louis worked as an undercover narcotics officer taking drugs off the streets in order to keep children and young adults safe.
He later returned to work in the oil industry and eventually opened his own consulting company in May of 2000, where he continued working until his death. Over the years in the oil industry, he met many people but formed close and lasting friendships with only a few. They know who they are.
Louis had a passion for cooking and was an excellent cook, having learned from the best, his father. He was often the cook at large family gatherings and always traveled to job sites with his favorite pots and utensils. He also enjoyed growing vegetables in his backyard garden.
Louis touched the lives of many people in a positive way during his lifetime and tried to see the good in everyone. He was a very giving person, and his family was the most important thing in his life. His children and grandchildren held special places in his heart; just ask his grandchildren about their love for their “Paw” (Paw-Paw).
In later years, after returning to being single, Louis was blessed to have a special companion enter his life, Katie Morel. She filled a deep void in his life, for which he was very grateful. As with his own family, Katie’s children and her entire family were always welcomed into his home.
Survivors include his children: Mandy G. Armentor, Mindy L. Gaspard, Brandy G. Marks (Larry), Louis A. Gaspard, Jr. (Lauren), and Lee Roy E. Gaspard; his grandchildren: Emily Armentor, Jesse Marks, Christian Marks, Preslie Marks, Louis Gaspard III, Levi Gaspard, Leah Gaspard, Robert Calderon, Alex Calderon and Sean Calderon. He is also survived by the mother of his two oldest children, Deanna Naquin Gaspard, and son-in-law, Beto Calderon.
In addition, Louis is survived by his extended (Katie’s) family, including her children Jennifer M. Mestayer (Boyd), Stephanie M. Seroski (Joey) and Kimberly L. Morel; and grandchildren Regan Mestayer, Kenedi Mestayer, Caleb Seroski and Lana Seroski.
Louis also leaves behind to cherish his memory his brothers and sisters, whom he loved dearly: Lee Roy F. Gaspard, Jr. (Karen), Maria G. Seamans (Harry), Gregory G. Gaspard (Elizabeth), Jerome J. Gaspard (Tammy), and Michelle G. Resweber (Lou). He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Roy F. Gaspard, Sr. and Mabel Lucy Troxclair Gaspard, a daughter, Jessica Calderon; the mother of his four youngest children, Tammy Grow Gaspard; and the stepmother of his youngest four children, Peggy G. Gaspard.
Honorary pallbearers are Lee Roy Gaspard, Jr., Gregory Gaspard, Jerome Gaspard, Harry Seamans, Lou Resweber, Larry Marks, Louis Gaspard, Jr., Lee Roy E. Gaspard, Beto Calderon, Boyd Mestayer and Joey Seroski.
The family extends special gratitude to Dr. Steven Vidrine for providing many, many years of excellent medical care, given Louis’ complex medical history.
