Larry Louis Melancon, Sr.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville, for Larry Louis Melancon, Sr., 71, who passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana in Lafayette. Fr. Rusty Richard will officiate the services. Reading Scriptures are Lacey and Megan Champagne. Serving as gift bearers are Francine Melancon, Rachael Champagne and Sloane Melancon. The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014 and continue on Wednesday at 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be prayed (time pending) on Tuesday. In Mr. Larrys younger days, he loved living off of the land of the Atchafalaya Basin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing for his food. He would make his own nets for fishing and sold what he caught to his friends. He could rig anything together. Larry loved being off shore and being at his camp with his longtime friend, Pajo, who also lived off the land with him. He would make everyone laugh with his funny faces. Larry provided for his family always and enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and grandchildren. Larry is survived by his wife, Susan Melancon of Lafayette; his sons, Robin and Rammie Melancon, both of St. Martinville; his daughters, Francine (Kim) Allemond of Henderson and Rachael (Jonathan) Champagne of St. Martinville; his step children, Tina Courville and Billi (Clyde) Thomas; his brothers Michael Melancon and his longtime companion, Jeff of Ohio and Jessie Melancon of Breaux Bridge; his sisters, Judy (Douglas) Theriot of Metairie and Kathleen Thibodeaux of Breaux Bridge; his 14 grandchildren, Sloane Melancon, Shawna Melancon, Lacey Champagne, T-Jay Champagne, Megan Champagne, Logan Melancon, Chassidy Melancon, Robin Melancon, Jr., Trey Melancon, Sadie Melancon, Skylar Melancon, Taylor Melancon, Alissa Breaux and Morgan Theriot; his great grandchildren, Austin and Shylin McNew, Syeah Melancon, Eastin Berard, Karli and Lexi Durand, Kaylynn Champagne and Emma Melancon: his step grandchildren, Stage Allemond, Devin and Shelbie Thomas, Beau Courville, Chelsea Courville and Addyson Bievenue; and his step great grandchildren, Lance Hebert and Saven Allemond. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis J. Melancon; his mother, Hazel H. Melancon, his paternal grandmother Lydia Melancon; his paternal grandfather, Louis P. Melancon; his daughter, Nicole Melancon; his son, Larry Melancon, Jr. and his wife, Sussie Melancon; and his grandchild, Sye Iven Melancon Allemond. Pallbearers will be his son in laws, Jonathan Champagne, Sr. and Kim Ivy Allemond; his grandsons, Jonathan Champagne, Jr. and Logan Melancon; his great grandson, Austin McNew and his grandson-in-law, Domonic Landry. Pellerin Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
