Larry Joseph Stutes

New Iberia – Services will be held at a later date for Larry Joseph Stutes, 81, who passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, December 10, 2023.

A beloved man known for his kindness, generosity, and adventurous spirit, Larry was born in Scott, Louisiana on February 24, 1942, and he proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. He lived a remarkable life filled with passion and love.

Larry's career was marked by dedication and expertise. He started his professional journey as a consultant for Otis Engineering and later retired from Haliburton. Through his work, Larry made significant contributions to the industry and earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Larry had a zest for life that left an impact on everyone he encountered. An avid LSU and Saints Football fan, Larry could often be found passionately cheering them on. He found solace in the excitement of fishing expeditions and took great joy in cooking. He also had a soft spot for gambling (slots) and dogs—both brought him immense joy throughout his life.

An avid traveler who worked internationally, Larry explored the world with an insatiable curiosity. He immersed himself in different cultures and embraced new experiences wherever he went. Yet amidst all these adventures abroad, Larry never forgot to prioritize spending quality time with his children. Taking them crabbing was a cherished tradition—a chance to create lasting memories together—even if it meant occasionally letting them skip school.

Larry's acts of generosity knew no bounds. He had a heart of gold that touched the lives of many. Always selfless and compassionate, he would go above and beyond to help others in need. If you found yourself in a difficult situation, Larry would gladly offer you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His kindness extended far beyond material possessions; he also devoted himself to transporting workers to the docks, where they would show their gratitude by cooking for him. Larry's genuine care and concern for others endeared him to everyone he encountered.

Mr. Stutes is survived by three children, Christine S. Villermin, Dawn McKim-Garcia (Albert), and Charles A. Smith; siblings, Madeline Webb (Glenn), Vickie Dupont, Harold Lee Stutes (Peggy), Glynn Stutes (Tina), and Sherrie Sonnier (Gerald); grandchildren, Britney Stutes, Kelli Villermin, Douglas M. Villermin (Samantha), Geordie M. Hitter, and Jennifer Buckler (Justin); four great-grandchildren, Bailey and Miles Theriot, Abigail Villermin, and Emerson Buckler; and a sister-in-law, Margaret Stutes Hargroder.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Joyce T. Stutes; parents, Martin and Aline Stutes; brother, Ray A. Stutes; and brother-in-law, Marcus Dupont.

Larry was an extraordinary man who left an unforgettable mark on the world. His gentle nature, infectious sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed. May his vibrant spirit live on in our hearts, reminding us to embrace life's adventures and cherish the moments we have together.
