Laurel Boutte Higgins was born on April 18, 1953, to the late Raymond and Earldean Migues Boutte, and was a 1971 graduate of New Iberia Senior High. She worked as a secretary for KANE and the School Board Tax Office, then ultimately retired from Alfred Ackal State Farm after dedicating many years of service. In Laurel’s earlier years, she enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, and cooking (her favorite food was gumbo!). In more recent years, she loved reading, taking pictures, and adult coloring books. She will be deeply missed.
Mrs. Higgins is survived by daughter, Crystal Darby (Albert); son, Chris Higgins (Tina); sister, Ada Boutte Bonin (Michael); grandchildren, Dax Prejean, Dakotah Prejean, Justin Darby (Jenee), Sade’ Basham, McKenzie Higgins, and Ava Higgins; great-grandson, Jackson Darby, and one more on the way.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Higgins.
Pallbearers will be Chris Higgins, Jason Bonin, Albert Darby, Brian Blanchard, Mike Bonin, and Matt Gachassin.
Laurel’s kind spirit will remain in our hearts forever. May she rest in peace.
