Arnaudville - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church honoring the life of Layvin Keith Jacob Brooks, 16, who passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025.
A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Arnaudville on Saturday from 7:00 am until 10:30 am.
The family kindly requests that vibrant colors be worn to the funeral services.
Father Travis Abadie will officiate at the Funeral Mass. Burial will follow at St. John Francis Regis Cemetery.
Layvin Keith Jacob Brooks, a vibrant and beloved young man, who spent his brief yet impactful life bringing joy and laughter to everyone he encountered.
Layvin was a shining star, known for his infectious smile and his ability to brighten any room. His love for life was evident in every dance step to zydeco music, and his laughter echoed brightly as he rode on trail rides with friends and family. A lover of sports, Layvin immersed himself in baseball, basketball, football and calf roping. He had a special love for the outdoors, finding joy in fishing, hunting and swimming.
Layvin was a bright and promising junior at Beau Chene High School, where he excelled and maintained a 3.5% GPA. Known for his enthusiasm and dedication, he was an active member of the school community, participating in various organizations. Layvin was a member of the band and on the baseball team. He was also a strong leader, serving as a Freshman and Sophomore Student Council Representative and was eager to take on the role of Executive Board Officer in the upcoming school year. In addition, Layvin was honored to serve as the 4-H President for the 2024-2025 school year and was a valued member of the St. Landry Parish School Board Superintendent's Student Advisory Council.
As a dedicated parishioner of St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, Layvin's faith was a cornerstone of his life. He served as an altar server and actively participated in the youth group, embodying the values of kindness and community. His connection to his church family was a testament to his belief in compassion and service.
Layvin cherished the relationships he made, earning nicknames such as "Big Daddy Brooks" and "Big Lay." These titles reflected not only his stature but also the boundless love he spread among family and friends. Layvin had a big heart, one that touched the lives of those around him, leaving behind cherished memories that will be celebrated forever.
He is survived by his mother, Alizah Robertson; father, Tevin Brooks; siblings, Riah, Riley, Rayahnni, Rajah, Amarie, Laveah, Landon, Kylen, Khyri and Laken; aunts, Christian Henry, Kendsley Augustine (Jarrell) and LaKeatha Fusilier (Brandon); cousin and "nephew", Caleb Lee; uncles, Courtney Boutte, Sr., Corie Boutte, Cody Boutte, Sr., Lemont Mashall and Darnell Noel; paternal grandparents, Kayla and Morris Alexander; maternal great-grandfather, Doris Augustine, Sr.; maternal great-grandmother, Edmonia Robertson; paternal great-grandfather, Joseph Brooks; and numerous aunt, uncles, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Ulidelay M. Augustine and Joseph Smith Robertson, Jr.; maternal great-grandparents, Joseph Smith Robertson, Sr. and Mary Jane Augustine; and paternal great-grandmother, Josephine Brooks.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Marks, Laiken Guidry, Bricelon Declouet, Tim Riggs, Malcolm Jones and Kenny Sinnons.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Caleb Lee, Riley Johnson, La'Travius Francis, Ja'Dien Young, Tasia Riggs, Floyd Reed, Oliver Joseph, Dione Robinson, Darien White, Perry Jones, Jarrell Savoy, Doris Augustine, Bryan Guilbeau, Cain "Trenton" Richard, Kedra Wood, Sy LeJeune, Jason Castille, Markus Robertson, Jr. and Shelby Batiste.
