Leed was born on March 7, 1952, in St. Martinville, where he spent his formative years in the embrace of family and community. Leed was a devoted sugarcane farmer for over 40 years, working tirelessly in the fields under the Louisiana sun. He took great pride in his work and was well-respected in the agricultural community. His commitment to the land was matched only by his passion for the simpler pleasures of life. He loved hunting and fishing, often finding solace in nature’s embrace. Leed cherished the company of his rabbit dogs and delighted in the joy they brought him.
An enthusiast of Zydeco dancing, he could often be found moving to the rhythm of the music, celebrating life with friends and family. He was meticulous about his yard, nurturing it as he did with his relationships, creating a welcoming space for all who visited.
He is survived by his sons, Brody (Lacy Bernard) Champagne and Brooks (Claudia) Champagne; daughter, Amber (Miles) Fontenot; brother, Hobson Hoppy (Joyce) Champagne; sisters, Jackie (Francis) LeBlanc and Mildred (Rick) LeBlanc; grandchildren, Briggs Fontenot, Hazel Fontenot, Shay Champagne, Brogan Champagne, Haigen Champagne, Sean Champagne, Palin Champagne, Kayden Champagne, Juan Salcido, Cori, Allison, and Ashley Bertrand, and Ethan Bernard; and four great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leed and Carmen Judice Champagne, Sr.; paternal grandparents, Hobson and Telcilia Champagne; and his maternal grandparents, Euphis and Marie W. Judice.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
