St. Martinville - A Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 3, 2011, at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Leona Rita Judice Champagne, who passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011, at her residence. She was 90 years old. Rev Ed. Degeyter will conduct the services. Readers will be Cy Dugas and Anjenette Holmes. Gift bearers will be her five great-grandchildren. Inurnment will be at St. Michael Mausoleum. Maw, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She dedicated her life to caring for her family in a loving and patient way. She was a lady who was filled with faith, always trusting in God and accepting His will. She was an excellent seamstress, a wonderful cook and baker; three things she loved to do and did for as long as she could. She enjoyed going shopping, eating out and walking for exercise with her daughters. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved them more than life itself. Maw was the rock of her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Survivors include her husband of 64 years, A. J. Champagne of St. Martinville; her daughters, Elizabeth 'Liz' Dugas and her husband Malcolm, and Sharon Champagne all of St. Martinville; her son, Joey Champagne of St. Martinville; her brothers, Beauregard Judice Jr. of Loreauville and Coston Judice of Youngsville; her sisters, Stella Judice of St. Martinville and Doreen McDougle of Port Arthur, Texas; her three grandchildren, Cy Dugas and his wife Leah, Todd Champagne and his wife Angel and Julie Dugas; and her five great-grandchildren, Sarah Dugas, Luke Dugas, Adam Dugas, Aiden Champagne and Ambree Champagne. She was preceded in death by her father, Beauregard Judice Sr.; her mother, Stella Broussard Judice; her sisters, Sadie Broussard, Elaine Delahoussaye and Thelma Oubre; and her brother, Murphy Judice. The family would like to thank her caregivers, her sister, Stella Judice, her niece, Dianne Aucoin, and Jean Doucet for the loving care they provided to their wife/mother during the last months. Thanks also to AAA Hospice and her nurse Jill, for their care and support. Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.
