New Iberia Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Friday, May 30, 2014, at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, for Leonce Bonin, 89, who died on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors by the New Iberia VFW Post 1982.
Deacon Theo Landry will officiate.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday. Visitation will continue on Friday from 8:00 AM until 10:30 AM.
A native and lifelong resident of Iberia Parish, Mr. Bonin was born on February 4, 1925, and was the son of Marcellus and Elfrida Norris Bonin. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, during World War II and fought at the Battle of Iwo Jima. He worked as an auto mechanic for LeBlanc & Broussard Ford, and Ford City, and was a life member of the New Iberia VFW Post 1982, and a member of the American Legion. Mr. Bonin enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his sons, Jim Bonin of New Iberia, Ernest Bonin and wife Eileen of Coteau; sisters, Jeanette Dronet and husband Clifford of New Iberia, Esther Vice of New Iberia, Anite LeBlanc of New Iberia; grandchildren, Trisha Piro and husband Kevin, Ross Bonin and wife April, Scott Bonin; great grandchildren, Nikki Piro, Josh Piro and wife Kelsey, Collin Bonin, Cole Bonin, Haili Bonin; and 1 great great grandchild, Connor Hebert.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gernice Bonin; brothers, Laudice Bonin, Peter Bonin, Tony Bonin, ONeil Bonin; sisters, Eunice Gautreaux, Corrine Hebert; and his beloved dog and best friend, Coco.
Pallbearers will be Scott Bonin, Ross Bonin, Marty Gautreaux, Josh Piro, Trisha Piro, and Kevin Piro.
