Delcambre A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Friday, February 7, 2014 at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Delcambre for Leonce Speck Viator, Jr., 85, who died Tuesday, February 4, 2014, in New Iberia.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Readers will be Erin Hoffpauir, and Melanie Molbert. Gift Bearers include Megan Wimberly, Rebecca Hoffpauir, and Mary Landry.
Rev. Nathan Comeaux will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Thursday. Visitation will continue Friday from 8:00 AM until 10:15 AM.
Mr. Viator was born on February 22, 1928 at Jefferson Island, and proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force. Speck retired from Akzo Salt after many years of service. He was a friend to many, and a joy to be around. Despite battling numerous health issues for many years, his kind and generous spirit, his courage, and his love of life, God, and family was always apparent. He was an example for all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elta Bourque Viator of New Iberia; brothers, Eldridge Boy Viator of Port Arthur, Texas, Herman Boonie Viator and wife Bonnie of Delcambre; sisters, Emma Morvant and husband Francis New Iberia, Betty Herndon of Orlando, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce Viator, Sr., and Mary Bergeron Viator; siblings, Dorothy Hoffpauir Fanning, Wanita Romero, Richard Viator; and a foster brother, Adam Pete Migues.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Bourgeois, Charles Viator, Errol Viator, Matt Romero, Ryan Hoffpauir, and Joe Landry.
Honorary pallbearers include Eldridge Viator, Herman Viator, Francis Morvant, Jerry Segura, Autrey Delahoussaye. Michael Dore, and Roland Dore.
The family would like to give special thanks to his caregivers, especially Dr. George Douglas Sagrera and Pam, as well as the staff of Consolata Nursing Home, for the compassion and care shown to Mr. Viator.
