Arnaudville - Mrs. Lillian Lola Stolberg Morrogh died on May 14, 2014 at the age of 96. Trained as a nurse, Miss Lillian, as she was commonly known, spent most of her life as a loving wife and mother. It was obvious to everyone who knew her that the great love of her life was her husband of 68 years, Dr. Earl H. Morrogh, and that she was devoted to her four children. Dr. Morrogh preceded her in death on December 22, 2010. She was also a lover and caretaker of all creatures big and small; rarely was a stray or wounded animal not taken in. She treated them with the same care and respect as people, and the animals responded to her with obvious affection.
Born on April 18, 1918 in Little Rock, Arkansas, Miss Lillian was the oldest of three children. She attended public schools in Metairie, Louisiana before entering Charity Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated with a degree in nursing. She then joined the Navy and while stationed at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, she fell in love with and married a handsome young intern, Earl Morrogh. After his internship, the couple moved to Pineville, Louisiana where Earl fulfilled his residency at Huey P. Long Hospital. Shortly thereafter he joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he served as a physician during WWII. With the first two of eventually four children, Miss Lillian moved from Pineville to Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, the home of Dr. Earls brother.
After the war, Miss Lillian and Dr. Earl moved to Cecilia. They built a beautiful house with a large yard that she made into a lovely home that became the center of family life for the couple and their children. While Dr. Earl established his medical practice, Miss Lillian honed her skills as a homemaker and mother. She became an accomplished cook, appreciated for her creative presentation as well as her culinary skill. Over the years, all the children brought home a variety of friends, confident that they would be welcomed and well fed.
Miss Lillian loved to entertain, and numerous birthdays, holidays, and anniversaries of friends and family were celebrated in the Morrogh home. Her home was sometimes called into service as a local community center, and politicians, football coaches, high school principals, priests, and nuns were honored there. Occasionally, a bride and groom from outside the family requested the home for their wedding reception. Miss Lillians home also often served as the local emergency room where Dr. Earl treated those with a serious injury needing immediate attention. She was active in the community and served as a member of the Ladies Medical Auxiliary, the Altar Society, and a volunteer at St. Francis Clinic.
Among the people who will miss her most are: her daughters, Judi (and Steve) Axthelm and Stephanie (and Blair) Tighe; her sons, Kenneth (and Bonita) Morrogh and Earl Morrogh, Jr. (and Judye McCalman); her grandchildren, Sean (and Heather) Morrogh, Colin Morrogh, Joan Axthelm (and Louis Villaire), Ned Axthelm (and Emily Howard). Blair Tighe, Jr., Shea Tighe, and Evan (and Linnea) Tighe; her step-grandchild, Dwight (and Theresa) DuBose; her great-grandchildren, London and Donovan Morrogh, Gus Villaire and Isabella, Zinnia Axthelm; and her step-great-grandchildren Lindsey and Zachary DuBose.
Miss Lillian will be remembered as an intelligent, compassionate woman who was full of life and dedicated to her family and all others she loved.
