Lionel Abatte

Coteau - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Coteau for Lionel Joseph Abatte, 74, who died Saturday, January 22, 2011 in New Iberia . Entombment will follow in the church mausoleum. Rev. Barry Crochet will be the Celebrant. Angelina Blaze and Beverly St. Mary will proclaim the readings. Gift Bearers will be Mikala Tyrese Morgan. Born on Sunday, April 12, 1936 in New Iberia , Lionel was the son of Gabriel and Stella Kerlegon Abatte. He retired after 20 plus years with the Iberia School Board as a bus driver, Lionel also worked for the Coteau Water Plant for 26 years. His hobbies included: first and foremost, baseball, especially the Yankees, then farming, music, fishing and working in his garden. Survivors include his wife, Mable Gradney Abatte of Coteau; his son, Lonnie Abatte of New Iberia; his daughters, Cassie Abatte of New Iberia, Jeanelle Shahbazi and husband, Hassan of Sacramento, CA; his brothers, Stanley, Raymond and Santney Abatte; his sisters, Emma Broussard, Stella Abatte, Serita Auzenne, Irene Abatte; his grandchildren, Terrance Morgan and his wife Misty, Reza Shahbazi, Sheeva Shahbazi; his great grandchildren, Mikala and Tyrese Morgan. In addition to his parents, Lionel was preceded in death by his brother, Delton Abatte and his sister, Lucille Auzenne. Pallbearers will Lonnie Abatte, Terrance Morgan, David Blaze, Leroy Blaze, Jr., Wayne Auzenne and Rogers Singleton. A gathering of family and friends will be Thursday from 9:00 AM until 12:15 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home, 502 Jefferson Terrace Blvd , in New Iberia . A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 AM .
