Lionel "Pookey" Coleman, Sr.

Breaux Bridge - A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge for Lionel "Pookey" Coleman, Sr., 80, who passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at his residence.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Breaux Bridge on Thursday from 8:00 am until the time of service at 10:30 am.

Rev. Walker will officiate at the funeral service.

Interment will follow at The Southwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Jennings at 1:30 pm.

Lionel led a life filled with dedication and passion. After completing his high school education, he joined the United States Army and bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. His selfless service earned him the prestigious Purple Heart, a symbol of his courage and sacrifice.

Professionally, Lionel excelled as a supervisor in the shipyard industry. His exceptional skills and commitment to his craft left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the community he served. Lionel's dedication to his work was matched only by his love for his family.

In his leisure time, Lionel was an avid sports fan, particularly passionate about the Seattle Seahawks.  Lionel cherished the simple joys of life, relishing the company of his friends, Raymond and Monk. He enjoyed leisurely rides and shared laughter. Dining out with his loved ones held a special place in his heart, as he cherished every moment spent in their company.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Cynthia Williams Coleman; sons, Gary Hypolite, Jr. (Ashley) and Lionel P. Coleman, II; grandchildren, Morgan, Tiara, Garyian, Brianna, Garran and Gavlyn; great-grandchild, Kehlani; brother, Lennie Coleman, Jr. (Elsie); sisters, Ethel Stewart (Mack) and Helen Strickland (Harmon); aunt and godmother, Maudry "Aunt G" Widridge; aunt, Eugenia England; siblings-in-law, James Williams (Dionne), Marilyn Roy (Darryl), Mary Lewis (Glenn, Sr.), Joseph Menard, Jr. (Donna) and Marvin Joseph; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lennie Coleman, Sr. and Helen Walker Coleman; and parents-in-law, Joseph Rosevelt, Sr. and Shirley Williams Menard. 
 
Pallbearers will be Gary Hypolite, Jr., Glenn Lewis, Sr., Darryl Roy, James Williams and Marvin Joseph. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Lionel Coleman, II, Lennie Coleman, Jr., Joseph Menard, Jr., Harmon Strickland and Mack Stewart.
