Cecilia - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia for Lionel Rodriguez, Jr., 82, who passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023, at The Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice in Lafayette.

A visitation will take place at the funeral home in Cecilia on Wednesday from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm.  

A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 am on Wednesday.

Deacon Ken Soignier and Fr. Joseph Brasseaux will officiate at the funeral service. Readers will be Marie Duplechin, and Lourie Dupuis.
 
Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Cecilia has lost a beloved member of its community with the passing of Lionel Rodriguez, Jr. on August 18, 2023. Lionel was a hardworking individual who dedicated many years of his life to the Oil and Gas industry. However, he was so much more than just a career man. He was a kind-hearted soul with an infectious sense of humor and a generous spirit towards those in need. Lionel was truly a family man, always going above and beyond to support and care for his loved ones and friends.

Born on September 18, 1940, Lionel grew up in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He possessed an unwavering devotion to his family and friends, constantly putting their well-being ahead of his own. Lionel's selflessness knew no bounds; he would do anything within his power to ensure their comfort and happiness. It was this incredible trait that made him such an extraordinary individual in the eyes of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Lionel's dedication extended beyond his personal relationships. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, displaying unwavering loyalty to his country. After his military service, he continued to be an active member of the American Legion in Cecilia, where he formed lasting connections with fellow veterans while contributing to the well-being of his community.

Aside from his work with the St. Martin Parish Sheriff Department for many years and his service commitments, Lionel had several hobbies that brought him joy throughout his life. Cooking was one of his passions; he loved preparing delicious meals for family gatherings.

Woodworking also held a special place in Lionel's heart. He had an innate talent for crafting intricate pieces from raw materials, showcasing both skill and creativity with every project completed. Lionel's craftsmanship left a lasting impression on all who beheld his work.

In his downtime, Lionel found solace in the garden and on horseback. His love for gardening manifested in the vibrant blooms and thriving plants that adorned his yard. It was a serene retreat where he could immerse himself in nature's beauty and find peace amidst life's demands. Likewise, horseback riding became a cherished pastime, allowing him to connect with the majestic animals and embrace the freedom of the open countryside.

Lionel Rodriguez, Jr. leaves behind treasured memories and an enduring legacy. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched with his warmth and compassion. In this time of grief, let us remember him for the extraordinary person he was-a man who always put others before himself, spreading love and kindness wherever he went. As we bid farewell to Lionel, may we take comfort in the knowledge that his spirit will forever live on in our hearts.

He is survived by his sons, Robert Rodriguez and Chadwick (Danielle) Rodriguez; brother, Raymond (Becky) Rodriguez; sisters, Rose (Harold) Menard, Victoria (Jason) Benoit, and Elaine (John) Angelle; and his grandchildren, Bryce, Alex, Braxton, Braydon, Chad, Jr., Gabrielle, Gabriel, Izzy and Ezra.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lionel and Mabel Rodriguez; wife, Georgie G. Rodriguez; brother, Jim Rodriguez; nephews, Roddie Rodriguez and Tony Rodriguez; and an infant sister.

Pallbearers will be Brad Hollier, Roland Robicheaux, Corey Duplechin, Brayden LeCoq, Alex Rodriguez, and Braxton LeCoq.
