Lionel Sutton, II

Lionel Howard Sutton II, 88, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 9, 2026. All are welcome to convene and share memories of Lionel during a casual gathering of family and friends at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia, LA on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.

Lionel was born on May 23, 1937 in New Orleans, LA to Loris Lusk Sutton and Lionel Howard Sutton. He will be remembered for being a longstanding businessman and philanthropist who was full of life and memorable to all who have met him. He was a graduate of Jeanerette High School and Tulane University, where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Throughout his years, he belonged to the Optimist Club of New Iberia, Royal Society of Gourmets of Jeanerette, and Veterans Spade Card Playing Group as well as a generous supporter of many charitable organizations. He enjoyed spending time on the water at his camp in Stephensville, with friends and family in Pensacola Beach, and telling jokes around the card table.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine Sutton; sister, Loris Sutton Toranto; children, niece, step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great grandchild, and step-greatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law.

The family would like to express gratitude for the exceptional care he received from Iberia Medical Center, Hospice of Acadiana, Home Instead, and all other caregivers.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to be made to ARC of Iberia, St. Jude’s or Shriners Children’s.
