Lloyd Joseph Dekerlegand, Jr.

September 11, 1951 — April 5, 2020

Cecilia - Private Services will be held for the immediate family of Lloyd Joseph Dekerlegand, Jr., 68, who passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at Lafayette General Medical Center. Lloyd Joseph Dekerlegand, Jr. was born to Lloyd Joseph Dekerlegand, Sr. and Rose Marie Dekerlegand on September 11, 1951. He was a graduate of Arnaudville High School and a resident of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. He attended T.H. Harris then went on to have a very successful career with ExxonMobil working in offshore communications equipment. He retired in 2012 after 32 years and began a small business of his own, Deker Solutions alongside his son, Sean. He developed other small businesses and was always working to improve his companies’ operation, equipment, and customer services. Lloyd was a devout Catholic, very strong in his Faith and Love for God. He went on to become a Eucharistic Minister. He often could be found at CJC helping with several of Fr. Michael Champagne’s service projects or religious studies. He also helped whenever needed for Religious Processions such as the annual Cecilia to Arnaudville Good Friday Way of the Cross Prayer Walk, the August Eucharistic Boat Processions down the Bayou Teche from Leonville to St. Martinville; TMIY That Man is You, and setting up sound equipment for the Bible Marathons. His family meant everything to him. He loved the outdoors, camping and boating, but most of all, motorcycles. He carried his “Poppa” duties to the extreme, leading Regan and Ryker to motocross. Lloyd and Joline traveled the country via motorcycle with lifelong friends. He often talked about his aircraft flights as a pilot and as a passenger with a smile on his face! Lloyd had very well-informed political views and shared it when needed. He taught his grandsons to never give up, conquer your fears, follow your dreams, and always put God first. Everyone that knew him would say that he was a brilliant man and will never be forgotten. He was admired by many, always willing to give a guiding hand to those who reached out to him. He leaves behind the love of his life, his wife, Joline Dupuis Dekerlegand; one son, Sean Dekerlegand; one daughter Dacia Dekerlegand; and five grandsons, Kaylan Joseph Patin, John Austin Bijeaux, Regan Luke Patin, Dexton James Dekerlegand, and Ryker Jude Patin. He is also survived by one brother, Ronald Dekerlegand of Cherry Hill, New Jersey; and one sister, Mathilde Dekerlegand Calais of Lafayette, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Joseph Dekerlegand, Sr.; and mother, Rose Marie Dekerlegand. The family would like to thank everyone who offered prayers for the repose of Lloyd’s soul. Please continue to keep Lloyd and his family in your prayers. Pallbearers will be Sean Dekerlegand, Kaylan Patin, Austin Bigeaux and Regan Patin. Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
