A longtime resident of New Iberia, Lourdes Pulles Toca was born in Victoria de las Tunas, Cuba on June 25, 1936, to the late Carlos H. and Orgelina Lodoza Pulles. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1960, at the age of 24, with her husband and three young children, and one on the way, leaving everything behind in her homeland, to raise her family in her new country. She was a wonderful homemaker whose nurturing heart created a warm and loving family environment. She was well known for her delicious Cuban cooking. It was a delightful treat that everyone loved, and her family's fond memories of gathering around her table will forever be cherished.

An active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Lourdes dedicated much of her life to serving others. As a Catechism teacher and Eucharistic Minister, she shared her faith with others, guiding them on their own spiritual journeys. Her kindness extended beyond the walls of the church, as she volunteered at Consolata Nursing Home for many years, offering companionship and support to those in need, and as a Pink Lady at Dauterive Hospital, where her gentle presence brought comfort.

Mrs. Toca’s passion for music was evident from a young age. She studied piano in Cuba and later shared her love of music. The melodies that flowed from her fingertips were a testament to her talent and her desire to inspire others through music.

After raising her family, Lourdes embraced her creative side and became an accomplished artist. Her art reflected her appreciation for beauty and will be cherished for years to come.

Mrs. Toca is survived by her children, Carlos R. Toca, Jr., Luly Toca Jenkins (Jack), Maggie Toca Stirling, and Mari Toca DeRouen (Craig); brother, Manuel Pulles; grandchildren, Kristen Toca, Jessica Arbour (Jason), Elizabeth Luby (Mark), Carlos R. Toca III, Jeff Jenkins (Ashley), Katie Jenkins Schiller (Chris), Chris Jenkins, Alex Stirling, Jacob Stirling, Sara Crochet, David Crochet, Michael Stirling (Marcelle), and Cara Stirling Talley (Patrick); and great-grandchildren, Reno Toca, Rex Fontenot, Elijah Arbour, Mila Arbour, Luke Luby, Sloane Luby, Paige Jenkins, Payton Jenkins, Chloe Schiller, Hudson Schiller, Tripp Talley, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Carlos R. Toca, Sr.; and siblings, Sylvia P. Aldana, Jorge Pulles, Carlos H. Pulles, and Hector Pulles.

Pallbearers will be Carlos Toca, III, Jeff Jenkins, Chris Jenkins, Alex Stirling, Jacob Stirling, and Reno Toca.

Honorary pallbearers include David Crochet, Michael Stirling and Rex Fontenot.

Lourdes will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her joyful spirit, and her ability to bring people together through her love and compassion. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank NSI – Hospice for their loving care, Food With Love for their prayers and delicious meals, and Yamiley for her devoted caregiving. May she rest in Peace.
