St. Martinville, La - A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Ludger Cormier, 74, who passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home.Masks will be required for all in attendance.The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville from 7:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, August 14, 2021. A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 am on Saturday. Fr. Abelardo Gabriel, SVD will officiate the Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville, Louisiana. Ludger honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During his enlistment he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals, Combat Infantryman’s and Sharpshooter’s Badges, two Overseas Bars, and was later awarded the Purple Heart.He was a lifelong parishioner of Notre Dame Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion, Congressional Black Caucus and Knights of Peter Claver. He was elected as St. Martin Parish Police Jury in District 3 for several years. Ludger enjoyed fishing, hunting, politics, playing cards, going to the casino, horse racing, entertaining his family and friends. He will be remembered for his spirited personality, charm, warm smile and for the wonderful life he provided his family. He is survived by his three daughters, Shanta Cormier-Richard (David), Lucresha Cormier, and Bridget Cormier; six grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; four sisters, Lorraine Kennerson, Carolyn Cormier, Barolyn Batiste, Millie Washington (Joseph); and his brother, Eugene Lamar Cormier (Eula). He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Marie Phillips Cormier; his parents, Stella and Roy Cormier, Sr.; his grandson, Connor Garrick; his brothers, Roy Cormier, Jr., Ronald Cormier, Royce Lemelle Cormier, Charles Cormier and John Allen Cormier; his niece, Rene’ Petite; and great-nephew, Lance Petite. Pallbearers will be Roydell Batiste, Stephan Cormier, David Richard, Marcus Cormier, Sr., Marcus Cormier, Jr. and Lemelle Lee, III.Honorary pallbearers will be Brayan Broussard, Roy Cormier, III, Keith Cormier, Royce Cormier, Jr., Christopher Cormier, David Allen Cormier and Robert Derek Batiste.
