Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, January 3, 2026 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church honoring the life of Mahalia "Monsie" Demouchet, 34, who passed away on December 23, 2025 at University Hospital (New Orleans).
A visitation will take place at Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge on Saturday from 7:00 AM to 10:15 AM.
A rosary will be prayed at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
Rev. George Bede Ajuruchi, SSJ will officiate at the funeral mass. Reader will be Tiffany Francis.
Burial will follow at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Cemetery.
Mahalia was born on March 18, 1991 in Lafayette. Known lovingly as "Monsie," she was a vibrant and cherished soul whose presence could light up any gathering.
Mahalia loved barbequing, trail riding, dancing and activities that reflected her lively spirit and love for life. Above all, she treasured spending time with her family, creating memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. Family was the center of her world, and she found her greatest happiness when surrounded by those she loved most.
Mahalia will be remembered for her warmth, her fun-loving nature, and the lasting impact she made on everyone blessed to know her. Her memory will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
She is survived by her father, Toicy Babineaux, Sr.; mother, Roxanne Demouchet Barras; brothers, Toicy Babineaux, Jr, Lannis Molten and Justin Babineaux; sister, Odelia Journet; nephews, Aspen Babineaux and Maddox Babineaux; godfather, Albert Menard; godmothers, Beverly Domonter and Tammy Semere; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and family.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Christine Demouchet, Carmella Demouchet, Kizzy Demouchet, Tammy Semere, Eleanor Domonter, Tasia Domonter, Stephan Constatine, Jacolby Journet, Garriet Thomas, Joseph Demouchet, Kavondick Demouchet and Caleb Francis.
Honorary pallbearers will be Toicy Babineaux, Jr., Terry Doumechet, Scory Demouchet, Cashia Demouchet, Talitia Demouchet, Wilton Demouchet, Christopher Williams, Destin Weekly, Maurice Demouchet, Jordan Demouchet, Lannis Molten and Justin Babineaux.
