Marcel Pratt was born on September 6, 1940, in St. Martinville, La. to a large and loving family. His parents were the late Joseph Pratt and Oscalie Williams Pratt. He shared the love and attention of his parents with his eleven siblings.
In his youth, he attended Notre Dame Elementary and in 1958 became a graduate of Holy Rosary Institute in Lafayette, La., Marcel continued his education and in 1962 graduated from USL with a B.A. in Secondary Education, specializing in Math. He wanted to be, and was, that teacher who makes a positive impact on students' lives so that they can flourish. A devout Christian, he was actively involved throughout the church community, directing the men's choir
at Notre Dame Church for many years. His devotion was absolute, unquestioned, and sincere. Marcel was also an avid sports fan and coached the game as if he was on the sideline, often alerting other family members as to when the game was about to begin, so...suit up!
Now left to cherish, celebrate his life and embrace the memories of Marcel are his brothers, Oscar Pratt of Carson, Ca., Carol Pratt of Lacombe, La., Lane Pratt of St. Martinville, La., David Pratt of Los Angeles, Ca., and Mark Pratt of St. Martinville and his three sisters, Elaine Pratt Conant of Lafayette, La., Margaret Pratt of St. Martinville, La. and Andree Pratt Lewis of Henderson, Nevada. Marcel was a bachelor and had no children but nieces and nephews who were always around will surely feel his absence. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gerald Pratt and John Pratt.
Marcel will be deeply missed and his memory will be cherished and etched in our heart forever.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Pratt, Michael Dugas, Calder Hebert, David Pratt, Lane Pratt and Warren Zenon.
Honorary pallbearers will be Carol Pratt, Mark Pratt and Oscar Pratt.
The family of Marcel wishes to express sincere appreciation for every act of kindness and love shown during his illness. Your prayers, words of kindness and encouragement helped to sustain. Special thanks to Magnolia Estates and The Carpenter House for their special care of Marcel. May God richly bless you.
Pellerin Funeral Home (337-332-2111) is in charge of arrangements.
