New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday, December 23, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Iberia for Martin J. Delaune, Sr., 78, who died Wednesday, December 18, 2013, in Lafayette. Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery, in Coteau. Rev. Mark Derise will be the Celebrant. A gathering of family and friends will be Sunday from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Sunday. Visitation will continue Monday from 7:00 AM until 9:30 AM. Born on October 26, 1935, Mr. Delaune was a native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, and was a veteran having served our country in the National Guard. He played Professional Baseball for several Minor League teams, coached Little League Baseball, enjoyed hunting, and was a referee for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association. He was Assistant Fire Chief for the City of New Iberia, with 28 years of service. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Charlene Viator Delaune of Youngsville; children, Donna Gautreaux and husband Craig of Youngsville, Marty Delaune and wife Pam of New Iberia, Micki Besse and husband Dev of Rayne, Kathie Petkovsky and husband Darryl of Cincinnati, Ohio; 5 grandchildren, Kyle Gautreaux of Denver, CO, Eric Delaune of Spokane, WA, Grant Besse of Lafayette, Luke Besse of Rayne, John Michael Besse of Rayne; sister-in-law, Ruth Boudreaux of New Iberia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse Pip Delaune and Rose Martin Delaune; and a brother, J.L. Boudreaux. Pallbearers will be Grant Besse, Luke Besse, John Michael Besse, Kyle Gautreaux, Eric Delaune, Craig Gautreaux, Dev Besse, and Darryl Petkovsky.
