Mary Frances Landry was born on December 5th, 1945 in New Iberia, LA where shegrew up as the 5th child of Jacob and Stephanie Landry’s 8 children. When she was in second grade, she was rushed to the ER after having a seizure and was diagnosed with epilepsy. She didn’t let this stop her from following her dreams. She went on to graduate from Mt. Carmel Academy and then from Texas Tech University with a degree in speech therapy. She lived in Baton Rouge, LA most of her adult life and worked in the school system there as a speech therapist for many years. She completed her career working with young adults with autism.
Mary Frances loved life and was always on the go. It was rare that you would find her home. She was a passionate follower and season ticket holder of Lady Tiger Basketball. She spent endless hours at La Madeleine with Patrick and many of her good friends that she would meet there daily. She was an avid runner and ran in many races and marathons in Louisiana and across the country. She had fond memories of many summers spent as a counselor at Camp Glen Arden in North Carolina where she was in her element teaching tennis. Glen Arden was like a second home to her and those she got to know there were like family. Later in life, she spent summer vacations in St. Augustine, FL with her friend Debbie and back home she enjoyed spending time with her friends Anna Marie and John. Throughout her life she never lost her connection with Jo Ann, Cathy and her good friends from New Iberia.
Mary Frances was most of all a faithful, devout Catholic. On any given day you could find her at daily Mass at one of three of her favorite Catholic Churches in Baton Rouge. She never married or had children but was crazy about all of her nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She had a special bond with her niece Gabrielle, who shared her love of tennis. That love of tennis began all the way back to playing tennis in the backyard with her Papa and the Olivier Lawn and Tennis Club. She spent many holidays with her cousins, the Broussard’s, in Baton Rouge and she loved traveling to Kingwood, Kansas City, Destrehan and New Iberia for holidays and special occasions with her immediate and extended family.
The family would like to thank Erika Mackey, who started out as her hairdresser many years ago, and became her very special friend, as well as Jimmy Hill, who were both there for her as she found herself navigating a new life with dementia. Thanks also to the Memory Care Staff at Barclay House, especially the activity directors, Lauren, and Carrie. Carrie was like the daughter she never had, and she made the last year of her life so fulfilling and beautiful. Finally, the family thanks the hospice nurses and staff at The Crossing at Clarity who helped to keep her completely pain free and comfortable. She passed away peacefully on the morning of Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025. She was welcomed into eternal life by her dear brother, Matt, who just passed one month before, along with a host of loved ones who have been waiting for her to join them in Paradise.
Mary Frances is survived by her four sisters, Stephanie (Sousou) Barineau (Bill) of Kingwood, TX; Toni Coopersmith (Jim) of Mission Hills, KS; Courtney Saucier (Don) of Destrehan, LA; and Louisan Frey (Frank) of Kingwood, Tx.
