New Iberia A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 15, 2014 at St. Peter Catholic Church in New Iberia for Mary Schwing Robbins, 97, who died Monday, May 12, 2014, in New Iberia.
Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery.
Rev. Ed Degeyter will be the Celebrant.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM Wednesday. Visitation will continue on Thursday from 8:00 AM until 9:30 AM.
A native and lifelong resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Robbins was born on November 5, 1916, and was a 1933 valedictorian graduate of Mt. Carmel. She was also a graduate of Maryville University and St. Louis University, in St. Louis, Missouri, and was a third grade teacher at Catholic High. She enjoyed playing tennis in her youth, and later in life she enjoyed art, especially oil painting.
Survivors include her children, Ruel H. Robbins, Jr. of Richmond View, CA, and Ann Robbins LaBiche of New Iberia; siblings, Flora Therese Schwing Broussard, F. Paul Schwing, Pierre Schwing, Sr. and wife Kitty Conrad Schwing, Henriette Schwing Doughtery, and James W. Schwing, Sr. and wife Beverly all of New Iberia; five grandchildren, Savannah M. Robbins of Lafayette, Danielle LaBiche Leger and husband Holland of Irmo, SC, Aimee LaBiche Theriot and husband Phillip of New Iberia, Adele LaBiche Platt and husband Andy of New Iberia, Chad LaBiche and wife Laura of New Iberia; seven great grandchildren, Peyton Theriot, Trinity Leger, Drew Platt, Josie Platt, Evan LaBiche, Emma LaBiche, Elliot LaBiche; daughter-in-law, Carol Vermillion Robbins of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Elmer Schwing and Anna Blanchet Schwing; husband, Ruel H. Robbins, Sr.; son, John Thomas Robbins; brothers, Rev. John E. Schwing, S.J., Jules Schwing, George Schwing; sister, Anna Louise Schwing Allain; and her son-in-law, Daniel Charles LaBiche.
Pallbearers will be Ruel H. Robbins, Jr., Savannah H. Robbins, Danielle LaBiche Leger, Aimee LaBiche Theriot, Adele LaBiche Platt, and Chad LaBiche.
The family would like to give special thanks to Mrs. Robbins caregivers, Sisters Care, Vera Lewis, Charlotte Nicholas, Mona Hamilton, Kimberly Slusher, and Marion Broussard.
