Maudrey Mouton Champagne

Breaux Bridge - A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at St. Bernard Catholic Church for Maudrey Mouton Champagne, age 87, who passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at her residence in Breaux Bridge with her family by her side.

The family requests visitation be held on Friday, October 17, 2025 from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm. It will continue on Saturday from 9:00 am until 12:30 pm.

A Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 pm on Friday evening.

Father Garrett McIntyre will officiate the Funeral Mass. Readers will be Nicole Guidry and Brittni Griffith. Interment will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery #2 in Breaux Bridge.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Brenda Champagne Patin (E.J.), Randall Champagne, Darrel Champagne (Michelle), Tammy Champagne Guidry, and Karen Champagne McKneely (Matt); 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 2 step great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild (plus one on the way), and 8 step great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Champagne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Lee Champagne; parents, Alpheus and Clementine Dalfrey Mouton; her siblings, Eula Mae Mouton Myers, Obrey Mouton, Thelma Mouton Bergeron, Annie Joyce Mouton Guidroz, and Carroll Mouton; and one step great-great grandchild, Riggs Robicheaux.

As the matriarch of her family, Mom, as she was affectionately known by all who loved her, loved life in all its many complexities. After becoming a widow at the age of 46, Mom accepted God's will for her life and the struggles that came with it. She was a feisty, yet loving soul who had a tremendous love for all of her family. She was honest and to the point, never mincing words and never shying away from saying what was on her heart and her mind. As the youngest of six children, she enjoyed telling countless stories of her childhood, often reminiscing on the bond she shared with each of her siblings, as well as her parents. She truly enjoyed every visit she would receive, often sending off visitors with something delicious she had cooked. She often told stories of her life with her husband, Pop, whom she loved and missed dearly. She truly mourned the sudden loss of her husband daily, and longed for the day she would be reunited with him in the presence of Jesus.

Mom had impeccable work ethic, and dedicated her career life to the US Postal Service, retiring after 33 years of service. She had a firm stance and disposition when it involved her work, and she learned the tricks of the trade very fast. There was nothing she was not willing to learn or able to do. She was someone you could always count on, and an extremely hard worker.

Outside of working, she treasured her family and her faith. A devout Catholic, Mom dedicated countless hours to weekly adoration, remained consistently prayerful by praying her rosary daily, and was the source of comfort and prayer that we all called upon in times of need as a family. Mom was one of several parishioners who founded the St. Bernard Adoration Chapel in Breaux Bridge. She faithfully burned a holy candle in her bedroom for the past 40 plus years. She enjoyed watching EWTN, old western/cowboy shows, and soap operas. She cooked the most delicious food, and will be fondly remembered for her amazing smothered potatoes, smothered chicken, corn macque-choux, crawfish etouffee, homemade fudge and pralines, syrup cake, and cush-cush.

The family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr. Bellelo and her staff, Heart of Hospice and their staff, with special thanks to Lana and Cindy who provided exceptional care to Mom in her final days. The family also wishes to express gratitude to the many friends and family who have visited and prayed, and shown Mom so much love and compassion these past several months.

May Mom's spirit, words of wisdom, and love of her faith be a constant source of comfort and remain in our hearts forever.

Pallbearers will be Daniel Patin, Jarad Champagne, Drake Champagne, Seth Champagne, Hunter Guidry, and Brock Richard.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Darrel Champagne, Randall Champagne, Kevin Patin, Benny Comeaux, and Denny Comeaux.
