St. Martinville - Funeral services will be held at 10 am on Thursday, July 3, 2014, at Pellerin Funeral Home Chapel in St. Martinville, for Mayo J. Broussard, Sr., 91, who passed away on Monday, June 30, 2014.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 2:30 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday and continue on Thursday at 8:00 am until 9:45 am, at Pellerin Funeral Home in St. Martinville. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Wednesday. Interment will follow at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Coteau Holmes.
Mr. Broussard, a veteran of World War II, was honorably discharged from the United States Army on December 3, 1945, after serving in campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, The Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe.
He was a commercial fisherman who enjoyed fishing, doing yard work, playing cards, and Cajun dancing. He was an accomplished guitar and fiddle player, as well, who loved playing music for his family and friends to enjoy.
He is survived by his son, Mayo J. Broussard, Jr. of St. Martinville; his daughter, Bonnie B. Voinche of St. Martinville; two brothers, Nolan Broussard and Oswald Broussard, both of Coteau Holmes; his sister, Lula Bell Tauzin of Daspit; 4 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sorita Lasseigne Broussard; his parents, Reneil and Denise Bonin Broussard; and his companion, Bernice Chataignier.
Pallbearers will be Mayo Broussard Jr., Damon Voinche, Danny Chataignier, Casey Dugas, David Chataignier, Jr., and Taylor Broome.
