Mignon LaBauve Arton

New Iberia Funeral services will be at 12 Noon Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in New Iberia for Mignon LaBauve Arton, 62, who died on Thursday, April 17, 2014, in New Iberia. Entombment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. Msgr. Richard Greene will be the Celebrant. Msgr. Charles Mallet will serve as concelebrant. Readers will be Courtney Keetch Kolar, and Hunter Williard Arton. Pallbearers will be Michael Henry, Connor Henry, Jason Reed, Beau Bauder, Sean Faucheaux, and Daniel Keetch, Jr. A gathering of family and friends will be Friday from 4:30 PM until 8:00 PM at Pellerin Funeral Home in New Iberia. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM Friday. Visitation will continue on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 11:30 AM. Mignon was born in Lafayette on June 6, 1951, and resided in several locations around the world, as her father was a military officer. At age thirteen, her family settled in San Antonio, Texas, where she graduated from Robert E. Lee High School. She graduated from U.S.L., earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, and settled in New Iberia. She worked as a registered nurse for the Iberia Parish Health Unit and Iberia General Hospital. Mignon has been a dedicated employee of Dauterive Hospital for over 25 years. As the Director of Case Management, she was well known as a patient advocate who went above and beyond the call of duty for patients and their families. She was able to address their difficult issues with grace and compassion. Mignons most notable traits were her nurturing demeanor and her strong will. Family always came first. She spent the majority of her daughters childhood years as a dance mom, carpool mom, cookie mom, and whatever other task was requested. This selfless dedication continued with her seven grandchildren. She and her husband Mike enjoyed traveling, most recently fulfilling their grandchildrens wishes to go to Disney World one grandchild at a time. Despite her three-year battle with non-small cell adenocarcinoma, she continued to participate in walks and fundraisers for organizations such as March of Dimes, American Cancer Society, and American Heart Association. Prior to her illness, she was a regular donor for United Blood Services and served on the board of the Iberia Mental Health Association for more than twenty years. In her spare time, Mignon enjoyed many activities. She loved to read any book, magazine or newspaper she could get her hands on. Mignon enjoyed country music, dancing, and good Mexican food. She liked to spend time with friends in supper club and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also enjoyed flower gardening, a hobby she shared with fellow members of the Acadiana Chapter of the American Hibiscus Society. Survivors include her husband, Mike Arton; father, Lt. Col. W.C. Will LaBauve (Ret) and wife Marlene of Lafayette; children, Erin Breaux Henry and husband Michael of Lafayette, Jenny Breaux Reed and husband Jason of McKinney, Texas, Michael Arton, Jr. and wife Hunter of Wilton, Connecticut, Jennifer Arton Bauder and husband Beau of Youngsville; grandchildren, Connor Michael Henry, Natalie Grace Henry, Cameron Jude Bauder, Harrison Dean Bauder, Brennan Paul Reed, Adelyn Sue Bauder, and Analeigh Kate Reed; sisters, Susan LaBauve Messina and husband Raymond of Kenner, Helen LaBauve Keetch and husband Danny of Corpus Christi, Texas, Caren Crowley Crump and husband Michael of Houston, Texas, and Kathy Crowley of San Antonio, Texas; and a brother, Chris LaBauve of San Antonio, Texas. She was preceded in death by her mother Irene Stiles LaBauve and a brother, Mark LaBauve. The family would like to thank Drs. Kies and OReilly and the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center as well as Dr. Deborah Johnson and the staff at Cancer Center of Acadiana for their treatment and support over the last three years. They would also like to thank the various doctors and nurses at Dauterive Hospital, especially Dr. Mike Alvarez, who provided personalized care for Mignon and support to her family throughout her illness.
